I can't wait to hear your impressions of the jacket.

Just checked my e-mails... the order went in on 03/08/04... so about 20 days ago. At the time, I seem to recall Gerry saying it would be ready in 21 days, so they beat themselves by a day :)

There will be many pictures, rest assured of that :)

I was speaking to Jerry today and he's interested in feedback too. He said this is one of the first horses to go out (there was rumour of a few prototypes a month or two ago, I think?), so they are very keen to hear what I think, too.

Some comments from Jerry:

* The leather is very different to all the other Wested leathers. It has an almost wax-like finish.

* The leather looks very tough. Very suitable for the Indy cut of jacket.

Jerry said I'd see the jacket in about three days (!!!) so, man, I can can hardly think straight right now :)

I got a horsehide A-2 three years ago and when new it was very stiff and almost looked like a vinyl jacket. After a few years of wear, the shine has finally worn off and it is taking on the look of a vintage jacket. The leather is also quite tough, but does distress if exposed to abrasion. After three years, there is only the tiniest bit of wear on one collar tip and a pocket flap.

It may be possible that the first horsehide Wested's will look too shiny, but it will wear off if my horsehide A-2 is any indication. Congrats on the purchase!!!

Thanks for the comment, Lemon! How often did you wear your jacket to start seeing such wear?

I pretty much wear the jacket constantly through fall/winter (basically 10 deg - 55 deg F (or -12 to +12 C for our SI using friends). I especially like wearing it for deer hunting trips. It had no noticeable wear for the first two years, but after my third hunting trip, it began to have those two little signs of wear.
Keep in mind that this is from just normal wear in urban environments with the occasional trip to dense woods. I have no idea how this leather would hold up under planned distressing (chemicals, tumble dryer, etc)

But despite how much I love my A-2, I'm still going to buy an Indy Jacket! Now my internal debate is: US Wings kangaroo or Wested horsehide? So I anxiously await a pic / review of the horsehide!

Guys, guys, guys... no, sadly it didn't show. When I didn't get any phonecalls to pay import duties, I knew something must be up.

Fingers crossed for early next week, eh? :)

I think it was the excitement of waiting for Rob's jacket to arrive.

One small step for the mailman, one huge leap for gearhead kind.

If only Neil had been a gearhead. Just think of the possibilities. The man in the moon would look good wearing a Herbert Johnson.

What is the latest that they usually run down there? If it is like here, you still have a hour or hour and a half left for today. If not, I am sure it will be there tomorrow. I think everyone is waiting to hear about this one. I do hope that you like it when it gets there.

Well, I happen to know that Rob has his horsehide Wested now, just as COW went down for a few days! Rotten luck!

Rob - I think I replied to late to catch the pics at the office, and I'm home now 'till after the weekend, so I only have one thing to say to you -

PICS! =P~

Oh, and how's the fit?

(OK, so that's 2 things...)
