Re: Problem with Wested jacket fit
This is a bit of a forum myth. I have no side how much wiggle room you get. The guess has always been 4" for regualr 2" for the Rola. But as Gemma has stated 4 + 1 each side... which I expect is her trying to explain: all ow an extra inch either side for the room the pleats give you. But ...

Re: Problem with Wested jacket fit
tomek9210, I had the same problem a year ago with a ROLA. I bought a 42 which measured 48 (24 arm-pit to arm-pit) and Gemma assured me this was normal, that all their jackets had 6 inches of room, or as she rather confusingly put it: they have 4 inches of room plus 1 extra inch either side (equallin...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
You just have to find the size that fits you. Yes but I only have a limited lifespan :Forrestal: I hate buying jackets then having to send them back, or worse keeping them for a bit then having to sell them at a loss. It's an expensive hobby with nothing to show for it other than a growing collecti...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
Just to add to the confusion (carrying it over from another thread I buggered up yesterday  ), in remeasuring my jackets (G&B, Wested and Wings), all my jackets measure 24 inches across the back AND front from pit to pit and are marked size 44, so WHO knows? ;) Ach, I've given up on Weste...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
I have an old e-mail from Peter himself back in 2002 when I ordered my first Wested, and I asked about sizing. He stated that they use a standard military cut for their regular sized jackets, which was 4 inches above tagged size. OK, but that was back in 2002. Anyway, all I do know is 1- the jacket...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
If you want a size 44 jacket for example, which should measure 24 inches across the chest when its layed flat, to actually come out to 24 inches across when its finished, you have to cut the pattern two extra inches bigger to allow for the material to be taken up when you fold the seams over and pu...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
The standard and ROLA are the same at the chest, I checked this with Peter. A lot of people here said the ROLA was 80's fit with apparently only 2 or 3 inches of room, in which case the ROLA is not 80's fit. 80's fit must be custom only so you'd have to ask. my ROLA Special size 42 measures 23"...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
The standard Wested should have 4 inches of movement room in each tagged size. If the jacket you are refering to has 6 inches, then it was probably just tagged wrong. It can happen with OTR jackets. Wested jackets are not cut one size too big. They are cut to what is basically a standard military c...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
Welcome to the boards! Thanks! TOH Here's what I can offer: I have bought 3 Westeds and it takes a while to work out what fits (vs what you see on screen) and what doesn't. Furthermore, each one will have slight differences anyway due to the handmade nature of the jacket. Not sure that's the reason...

Re: Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
Yes, I noticed the rather cool looking (no pun intended) straw western style hats in No Country, so presumed that would probably be the norm nowadays rather than felt.backstagejack wrote:People wore felt outside when they had no other option...and when being sweaty was the norm. Right now, I wear my PB straw indy.

Re: Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
Punch holes in the crown. I used a leather punch and ... spray a light coat of either hat stiffner or hair spray inside the crown in the hole area. Well that's a neat trick to remember. And those four small holes make all the difference... You wonder if the wardrobe department on the Indy films eve...

Re: Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
backstagejack, seeing as you're from Texas, and seeing it is related to my original 'hat for all seasons' question, isn't it true that the Texas Rangers traditionally wore felt cowboy style hats? Wouldn't they be about as hot to wear in the desert as wearing a Fedora? well Connery is 6'3 6'3 sounded...

Re: Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
That's right, the Peter Bros site gives a guide for choosing a Raiders style based on height and face shape, I was just asking what people thought of that. (And no, they're not implying that height and hat size are related :) ) They say, for example, that medium height wouldn't suit a Raiders style ...

Re: Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
DR Ulloa: The film specs just don't work on the larger sized hats. He made me another with larger dimensions and it looks better than the film dimension. This is another reason why I'm not a SA junkie. SA isn't always YOU accurate. When you say larger size, would that include 60cm? Does the high squ...

Re: Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
eazybox: You must first turn the unbashed hat (to your right) to get the brim to warp in the characteristic Raiders look. Then you bash it, with the front crease centered. But surely all that will do is rotate the bow towards the front a little? I've read that some people suit a turned hat and other...

Re: Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
eazybox: The Raiders front pinch is very narrow, whereas the CS has a loose pinch at the bottom which narrows toward the top. I've read about the 'turn' the Raiders hat had. Is that just the habit of putting the hat on at a degree or two off the direction of the top crease? Indiana Jeff: Ford, welco...

Indy's Fedora - a hat for all seasons?
As someone who's never worn a fedora, in fact probably never seen one, I was wondering about the practicalities of the hat for real world use. I've seen photos here of folk wearing them in places like Indonesia and China, not dressed in Indy gear but the usual T-shirt travel gear, and was surprised ...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
Hi guys... :) VP: So it fits like a 22 inch, but measures 23? Or perhaps can't be measured accurately pit to pit because there's more leather at the back. Also, when you say wear with 'regular clothing' you're meaning just a shirt, and it should be a fairly neat fit? Also, I understood from reading ...

Re: Wested sizing for beginners
Hi guys! :) Kevin: Hi! I did email them, then called for clarification, and got a bit confused as to the sizing which is why I thought I'd ask here. First I emailed and asked the pit to pit measurement of a size 40 and was told: I have measured the ROLA size 40 jacket as you have requested the chest...

Wested sizing for beginners
Greetings from a new member :) I originally joined about a week ago with a long list of questions, and by the time I was authorised I'd entirely forgotten what they were... Fortunately though I've :dig: up some new ones - and seeing as this is the jacket forum, could I ask about Wested sizing...
