Re: Lace for plaiting a whip

At $84 for 60 feet of lace, that's gonna be one EXPENSIVE whip when you're done! :o Actually, the sale has 25 yards for $48 - that's why I was wondering if it would be useful. All the instructions I've come across say how wide to cut the bellies - none mention how wide the plaiting needs to be. I d...

Lace for plaiting a whip

I just popped in to the Tandy Leather Factory up here. They are having a sale on the Tejas Kangaroo lace. This is 1/8" x 25 yards. I've been looking through the posts to try to find anything about making a whip and can't seem to find where it mentions the plaits. Would this be usefull for the p...

Fed / Fed Deluxe no more?

A local store (H'Attitide) finally got the Akubra line. But in looking at Akubra's website I am unable to find the Federation or Federation Deluxe listed. Does Akubra still offer them?

I'm with the group that says that it all depends. I've worn hats since high school in the 80s - I had an indy replica hat back then too - but got the grey one so it wouldn't be instantly recognizable as an indy hat. I've had a leather jacket since back then too. In my neighborhood, at the time every...

Okay - I was finally able to get into the Canadian Footwear Ltd. They do carry RedWings - but they don't have the 8249 (or 8126, 8146, or 2912) in stock. She tried to check her catalog but couldn't find them in there either. She will call them and phone me back and let me know how much they are. But...

Are you able to adjust the gama on that picture above?
It looks like the buckle is there just dark -like it was curved - the way that the bridge of Indy's nose is dark.

I'm up in Canada. I have a Tandy about 2 blocks from work - it turns out - I just found it two weeks ago. We no longer have a Heritan in Winnipeg though.

I know of the books - just haven't picked up any yet. I thought that the taper was created by the dropping of strands in the plaiting - kind of like with making mail - or kniting :) .

Hmm. Okay, thanks. Tandy has a sale on some 1/8" Kangaroo plait but it sounds like it may not work.

Plaits size in whip making

In making a whip, what size are the plaits in width?
Are the plaits the same width through the length of the whip, or do they taper?
What length would the plaits be for which length of whip?
