brim shaping

Does anyone know how to shape a brim like in Crystal Skull? I've tried steaming and I think I'm getting the front alright but I am not sure what to do with the sides and the back.

thank you, I actually started doing that and the dents improved quite a bit to the point where I'm happy with them for now. That pinch at the top is bothering me though. And my brim is very stubborn its as flat as a board no matter what I do to it.

After tweaking with it for about twenty minutes I think its really starting to take shape but I'm having trouble with the front bashes. I can't seem to get them as deep and noticable as the other ones pictured. I'll post a pic as soon as I can so you can see what I mean. I can get the front pinch ri...

My Fed IV came in today and I'm going to go with the Crystal Skull bash since "the turn" for Raiders just didn't work for me. It did not seem to do much to the hat but I've made up my mind. Hopefully mine will look as good as this one did.

ANd this is coming from the master of the CS hat. Does anyone have an idea of how long it usually takes from Aussie to VA for the hat?

Actually Holt could you give any pointers on how to bash it like yours? Like what to do with the brim and how to make the front dents?

I just ordered my fed thursday night and I am so excited for it. I just need to decide which way to bash it? Raiders or CS? Now I play the waiting game.

finally ordered my federation IV today. I'm trying to decide between a raiders bash or a CS bash but if I go with the latter I'm going to use your's as a model to strive for. Great job!

Center Dent

Has anyone had any problems with the Federation IV being too short on them even if they have the right size. I mean I'm concerned that with my tall head that I won't be able to bash in a center dent. Anyone had this problem before?

It seems that in the back of the CS hat the birm is kinda of bent up. Has anyone tried that? Also how do you get the swoop of the brim using your hands? Maybe I'm obsessing too much about detail here but I really don't want to screw this up.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the 4 1/2 to 5 inches. Isn't that the entire "length" of the crown?

Thank you all. I was looking at some reference pics and (correct me if I'm wrong) the CS hat looks like kind of a hybrid between the Raiders (with its stovepipe sides) and TOD with its shallow bashes and looser pinch. Also lack of a "turn." How does one get the shallow side bashes like in ...

CS and TOD bash

I've been prowling this site for a while, looking for information about getting a new hat. I have a DP right now and I really want to upgrade and I've decided on the Federation IV. The delimma I am facing is about the bash I want. I was so adamant about getting a raiders bash but now the CS and the ...
