Re: My J Crew Red Wing Indy boots

I want to drag this one up from the depths and post an update. I have been wearing my Red Wings as outside work boots around the place since I got them, and they are standing up to the abuse very well...MUCH better than my Aldens would under the same circumstances. I will admit that I baby my Aldens...

Warmer?

OK, I think it is well established that goat is much more durable than lamb. But for those of us in chillier climes, which is warmer? Whilst I love my Wested lamb, it is NOT the warmest jacket for winter wear. So, what say the collective?

Not steel toed. As for the hooks, the one cobbler I have asked so far said he couldn't do it. Don't lose hope because at least one person on this board has a pair with speed hooks...I've seen pics of them.

Well, thanks to some quick "stuff" selling, I was able to un-cancel my order, and it should be here Wednesday! I just hope that the medium I ordered isn't as big as I suspect it will be...especially after the sleeve length quoted by Michaelson! The sleeves on my 38R Wested are 23.5" l...

No comparison in comfort, however... The Aldens are MUCH more comfortable. The Red Wings take a LOT of breaking in!

And, in case you were even remotely curious, here are the Red Wings and the Aldens together for comparison's sake... (Both with Alden laces.)

You are an evil young man and a bad influence upon society at large. My order for an identical jacket went out this afternoon. I also fall into the "too many to count" category, but one of them is a Webley MkVI. Beautiful piece. Back in the early 80's, I built a replica of the Stembridge Hand Ejector using a 1917 S&W, complete with barrel band front sight. It was complete with the original "Gold Seal"...

How old is your hat Chevalier? Not all Stetsons are bad and I dont mean to @#$% on your hat. Not to worry! I actually didn't take it that way at all. My point was that at least some of the non"official" Stetsons seemed to be OK with respect to bleeding. I am not sure of the age - I got it...

I have two...a fur felt Stetson Indy and a fairly light brown Bailey Fedora that is VERY Indyesque... The bailey gets worn a LOT more than the Stetson.

My Bleeding Stetson!

Hi all. While a few Wested Indy jackets have passed through my hands, I have only had two Indy Fedoras. The first was a wool felt Steson that was stolen off the hat rack in a restaurant, and the second (its replacement) is a fur felt Stetson. For some reason, I never really wore it out in the weathe...

Mine also started out as the lovely "pumpkin" color (yech!). As soon as I got them, I gave them a good, heavy coat of Red Wing shoe dressing. This seems to be very similar to the old "Hubbard's Shoe Grease" that was around for our grandfathers to use! Anyway, I let that soak in f...

I have both the Alden 405s and the Redwing Classics. The Aldens are pretty much my everyday wear, and the Redwings get the nod in foul weather and icy conditions. Of the two colors offered by J. Crew, the Hickory is a pretty decent match to the current Alden 405s for color. Here are mine, side by si...

Long time lurker, first time poster.... I wear my Aldens pretty much every day, weather permitting. If the weather is REAL wet or icy, I will wear my Redwing Classics from J. Crew. I tend to alternate between my Wested Lamb LC and an old, very worn, A-2 flight jacket. As much as I like the Wested, i...
