Hard to go wrong with RedWings. I had a pair that lasted nearly twenty years(three resoles) before I gave them to my brother. Now I have a pair of 2292s they are tougher than nails.

Did you ever watch "The Dukes of Hazard"? Production companies have ZERO problem destroying rare/valuable items as long as it suits their purpose and is within the budget. R.I.P. Lots of '68 R/Ts

This is a silly offtopic question: What happened if you did not pick up the hat after it got knocked off in a fight. I could never bring myself to leave it to find out. I always thought that was a great touch to the game.

Thanks for that. I was not sure about the episode.

My boss has a pretty good collection of vintage bikes and equipment. The oldest is a Penny Farthing with 56"(I think) wheel and oil lamp hanging from the hub.

Indy's bikes

These are two of the bikes used in The Young Indy Chronicles. My boss has a collection of vintage bikes and these were rented out for one of the young Indy episodes. They were not to be ridden as they are restored "dry" but were ridden in the episode(I don't know the name of it, my wife ha...

Bull whip article in MAKE magazine

This quarters MAKE #9 has articles on the bull whip. Starting with a basic intro, moving on to making one, then to cracking the whip, finally a conclusion including wave propogration theory from Alain Goriely. This is also a very cool magazine in general, last quarter had how to build an ornithopter...

Commercial hemp has a very low level of THC (The stuff that gets you high) You would need to chain smoke 10 or more cigarettes made from hemp buds to get the buzz of low grade marijuana. The only reason it can still be illegal to grow is the power of the cotton and paper industries in conjunction wi...

I have been wearing a similar watch from Seiko for two years(of abuse on a mechanics wrist). The snx427 is a mechanical/automatic, 21 jewel. It lacks the hack function but does have a day/date feature. It looks a lot like the Benrus or Citizen, cost was around $70 with shipping from Hong Kong(This m...

I have used a messenger bag daily for more than ten years. I have yet to get a purse comment, but I am pretty surly looking. Also I watched Captain Blood(1935) Errol Flynn carries a bag while on port Royal that would look like a purse if a woman carried. It does not look like a purse when he carries...

Mechanicals can be pretty tough. I wear a Seiko mechanical/automatic, 21 jewel, with day/date/time. I have worn it daily(I am a mechanic) for nearly two years and it still stays accurate to within five seconds a week. It has some nicks and scratches but nothing major, I have even dropped it on a con...

I use a vintage Gilette razor. I like the shave, not to close, no ingrown hairs. The blades are cheap and hold up better than modern multiblade razors. I also like the ritual of warming the mug, building lather in it, and applying it. I also have a hand crank blade sharpener(Yo lazy to get up and wh...

It does not take much to bring on the costume "effect" in people. I can arrive wearing grey cargo shorts, a RedCap work jacket, and safety orange messenger bag, pretty much my daily outfit and no one says anything. However, if it is raining and I wear my Kangaroo leather drovers hat(looks ...

My Dad was in the Navy and flew off the Boxer but he was not a pilot, he was a radar man. He did not know how to fly the plane, but he still had a leather flight jacket. (They did not let him steer the ship either :) )
