If you don't need a total screen accurat whip I would suggest you a Joe Strain or Mike Murphy from Australia: http://www.murphywhips.com/MW03C12-plaitAmerican.html.
Both are top notch whipmakers with reasonable prices.

Good luck

The australien typ is much lighter than the american. Last one have a steelpike inside the short handle that give weighting and balance. The light longhandle australian bulls feels more like a stockwhip (normaly is a cane inside the handle). They have a faster action as you control more from the whr...

Another recommendation is Mike Murphy. His "American Pattern Bullwhip" is my favorit. The balance is unbelievable, the whips rolls out so clean and cracks so easy that you believe you have a living thing in your hand. I have also a 8footer from Joe Strain. There is no difference in quality...

I think the bullwhip is a traditional tool for the cowboy and not a serious weapon ;-) You can not compare a bullwhip (designed for cracking) with a weapon like a shurikens (designed for killing). Bullwhips was made only for this reason and nothing else. All other reasons are just moviestuff and ver...

wait untill the whip goes smoother at the time, than the whip will feel heavier. Joe's bulls are not lightweight's (I have the same like your one), but very nice and tight braided. That seems to make a light whip if they are new and not broken in.

It can be that at the first time that you loose the cracker the end of the fall was riped off. If so, your fall-end will have a taper now at the end. You can do what you want, the loop of the the cracker will slip over the tapering end every time again. The right preparation is very simple, you need...

I start my whip experience with a swivel handle cowhide whip from a tourist store for 50 $. This was the only one for the next 10 years and the whip was sleeping the most time in the box. Anytime I found some whipmakers in the net that make whips how they look in the movies. So, I buy a kangaroohide...

very importent is that the end of the fall have no taper. The end of fall (last 1/8 inch) should be cut a little bit wider. If you have a real sharp knife (razor blade sharpness) you can cut the fall very easy. After this preparation you can pull the popperknot very close to the end of the fall - gi...

Sergei: is there a significant difference between the "indy style" and the "lone star" of Joe Strain? I've got my first Joe Strain (8ft indy) last month and I'm pleasant surprised about this fine balanced whip with such solid design and very own character. I'm sure it will be not...

Travelyar, if you got problems with your shoulder so it's very important that your start your whippractise very relaxed (and do it so all times). Don't hold the handle tight in your hands, because the energie and the feedback of the whipmotion will going up in your arm and shoulder and will working ...

Trevelyan, you can crack a heavy whip with less of power (should be so) and it's a lot of fun. The weight of the whip is more important for the speed - a light whip goes faster (better for fast routines) but a heavier whip will be crack louder with less effort. I like both and the art is to crack it...

I have a 8ft bullwhip ("Nightrider") from Si since 4 years in my collection. A very strong whip all the time, very tight braided. The rollout is clean and the tapering even. The diameter of the handle and thong is large like most of Si's whip but suprising light for this size.

thx Robert, I have (only) one indystyle from Bernie. Very heavy and different to other austr. whips, but I love them too. The variety of whip making art is very interest for me. The DM peplica at your site looks nice - a Morgan is to expensive for me. Is the handling also like a Morgan?

Rawhide Whips

hi, I'm a whipenthusiast from Germany. Preferably I collect bullwhips and now I'm thinking about to buy a RAWhide bullwhip. Untill today I has no possibilty to test a Rawbullwhip. The only whipmaker that I find in the net is Benton Cassaday from Texas. Have somebody expirience with that kind of bull...
