Re: Sutro Ellington Cognac boots
Well... in the least, I think these Sutro's have inspired me to look into doing a run of boots ourselves. 8) That would be fantastic! Features I look for in an Indy boot, roughly in order of importance: - moc toe stitching. Light stitching on darker leather. - leather (ish) sole. (Not white rubber ...

Re: MKVII Satchel: Screen Accurate with MODERN Interior!
Such a fantastic idea. I had been eyeing my vintage surplus bag and considering how I might make a new one with a more functional interior. Then you go and do it for me. I still might make one from leather though, or waxed canvas.

Re: Show us your US Wings goatskin jackets
I upgraded the rest of my gear since the previous pictures were posted, so here's something more recent. Hat: Akubra Fed IV Jacket: US Wings Goatskin Boots: Alden Shirt and pants: close-enoughs from the thrift store, pants custom hemmed by me. Bag: vintage surplus https://i.imgur.com/MIaaZlx.jpg htt...

Re: Best place to purchase the Alden Indy Boot?
And, it kind of goes without saying, if you don't want to pay an arm and a leg, ebay is your next best bet. I've been frequenting thrift stores for the past 6 months, and I've never seen anything that could pass for the boots, jacket, or hat. Lots of "good enoughs" for shirts and pants, th...

Re: Sutro Ellington Cognac boots
how is the sizing compared to the Aldens? Would I order the same size as I wear in the 405s? I normally wear a US size 9 shoe, and that is what I wear for the Sutro boots. I just tried on the Aldens and confirmed that they run large (as I had heard). So, my normally size 9 feet fit into Alden TruBa...

Re: Sutro Ellington Cognac boots
The Aldens arrived today, so I shot come comparison photos. I was a bit perturbed that the Aldens have such a red color cast. The Aldens are also heavier, presumably because of the steel shank. I still haven't put them on my feet yet. Might wear them to work tomorrow. Pictures: https://photos.app.go...

Re: Sutro Ellington Cognac boots
I'm tempted to pick up a pair of these in honey instead of the mahogany: Has anyone seen this color in person? Yes. The pair I bought was the honey color. Here is what they looked like when new. https://photos.google.com/u/2/share/AF1QipNBStWCvFGXLavmZJ87_Ctr_EVqkd2LLtnHHh4pgmhF_uCfJ3Hf32hPYewCUeFM...

I'm actually interested in sticking with leather, though I'll check out the cotton jacket.

Lightweight / windbreaker jacket options?
I got my US Wings goatskin jacket in the fall and wore it all winter. I found it easily could handle temps into the 30's, and even lower with a sweater or fleece underneath. Now that spring has sprung, on days when the temps are in the 60's and above I find myself wishing for something lighter. Is t...

Re: New piece of gear - The Pants
I taught myself how to do a military hem, to adapt thrift store pants, but making pants from scratch is impressive. Well done.

Re: Sutro Ellington Cognac boots
I had in mind to upgrade my personal style a bit, and stumbled on this site while doing research on boots. I've worn a fedora as a bad weather hat since the 1980's, killing two, and currently on my third. Since I've always liked the look, I decided to go with some authentic looking Indy boots. I fir...
