Wested Goat delay

Post by Rosenet »

I emailed Wested earlier this week to get an update on my jacket and find out if I'd get it in time for Halloween. Seems there's been a delay. Here's the response I got.

*********************

Unfortunately, we are experiencing some delay with the Goat Leather.
The last batch we received was found to be substandard and we are
expecting a new delivery in the next couple of weeks.

I am very sorry for any disappointment this may cause and would assure
you that we will do everything we can to make and despatch your jacket
as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you would like to change your leather option to
Hide or Lamb then we can make the jacket straight away and despatch within 10 days.

Regards Gerry

Hey Rosenet,
I'm sorry to hear about that. But, it's good that Peter and the bunch care enough to make sure the goat is top notch. Once you get your jacket, you will be impressed. It's a shame you won't have it for Halloween. But you will have it for the rest of your life.
Best of luck,
HJ

I hope he's gonna receive good goat on Tuesday!
I ordrerd a ToD original goatskin on Sept.17. I sent 2 emails to Peter this week and I didn't receive any response. :?
The wait is too long but I prefer a good quality leather jacket...

Dang...

I was ready to place my order for a Raiders Goat tomorrow morning. :( Oh well, a little delay won't hurt. I think this should be a testimate to Wested's quality control. They could have used the crappy leather and you might not have known, but good thing Peter sees the value in waiting and getting it done right. :)

Thanks for posting the update.

I think part of the problem was that the hides were too small so that it was impossible to have the back panel on the jacket without any seams. If that were the case, I'm pretty sure you'll notice big stiching going down the jacket.

Authentic Goat is worth the wait. If anyone is considering changing to another hide, stick with the goat, as you won't regret it. IIRC, there was a similar problem around this time last year.

I wholehaertedly agree, Mr. Das! The authentic goat is worth the wait. I love mine. In fact, every morning I think I could walk out the door wearing a different jacket, but somehow the Wested is the only one that leaves with me!

My Wested is the Auth. Goat and I gotta tell ya...wait for it. If its the nice soft supple goat that I got, you are in for a treat.

Patience !

Ken

PS if its any consolation, I am still waiting on my "Project X" super secret horse hide coat from them, which I will reveal to all when I get it ! They are among the best people I have ever dealt with for anything at all ! Cheers to Wested !

Is the difference between authentic lamb and authentic goat that much? I want to order one too but it needs to be done before Nov 28 so my friend can bring it back with him. Wested told me they couldn't guarantee it being done in goat by then. :(

In terms of color, no. In terms of material, definitely. Goatskin is a much more robust leather, where lambskin is more lightweight, and not nearly as strong as goatskin. Regards. Michaelson

I obviously don't have my own Wested goat yet, but I'm definitely going to wait. I mulled over the leather type decision and PMed several times with more knowledgable COW members. I decided on goat because its more durable, more waterproof, and is warmer. I'm in Boston which has a similar climate to the Great White North (what, doesn't the entire country have the same weather?) so you might come to the same conclusion if you want a three season jacket. If you want a summer jacket that you have to baby and feels like a windbreaker then lamb would be fine. <grin>

I'm with you, Rosenet.
I live one town away from you (as you know) and I have an Authentic Lamb. I wear it in the spring and the fall. All winter I wear my LL Bean Thinsulate lined Goat Flying Tiger Jacket. One day, I'll get a Wested Goat roomy enough for some layers. That's a good way to go!

####...I was hoping you guys would say that lamb was as good. I want goat but if I don't order it so I can get my friend to bring it back with him Dec 1 then I can't afford to get a jacket. Don't suppose anyone would want to give up their place in line for a goat? ;)

But the lamb IS good. It just depends on what you're wanting, and what you're using it for. Regards. Michaelson

I know the wait can be tough, but it will be well worth it.

Having visited Wested this Saturday, it's clear to me that Peter and Gerry pride themselves on the quality of their product. It is for this reason that substandard batches of leather are rejected - Wested want to deliver orders as quickly as possible - it is in their interest to do so - but to their credit, they will not use below-par hides.

When your jacket/s arrive, I'll bet all the waiting will be worth it. Hang tight! :)

And be sure to post some pics of you wearing it once the jacket arrives!

Regards,

Al

Certainly I understand and appreciate the fact that Wested puts such emphasis on quality, I would have it no other way. The only problem for me is the bad timing of it. The added cost of the shipping and then duties and taxes for me would mean I can't afford the jacket. Being able to get my friend to bring it home for me makes it affordable. Wested definitely is not to blame for that though, just bad timing. :(

You can also make a road trip to Canada for that free drink. By the time you're back home, your jacket will either be waiting or you'll be too drunk to care about the wait
