While I was at Disney World last month, I picked up a copy of the original Raiders theatrical release poster. I just finished framing it, and hanging it on my wall, when I noticed something.

The image of Indy on the poster is what I believe to be a 1:1 ratio.
I put my strap up to the image strap, and the width is the same.
I'm thinking that even tho this is a painting, that Amsel pretty much used a photo of Harrison Ford to work from. The strap buckle in this pic could be used as a reference for all you folks hunting them down out there.
Something to compare and contrats on it's size.

By my poster, I measure it as:

The buckle itself is perfectly square, not rectangular, at 1 1/8" X 1 1/8"
The frame of the buckle is 1/8" all the way around.
That leaves 7/8" on the inside to perfectly fit a bag strap.

Waddya think??? Any of you folks that have this poster, can you check it out?

That poster is not to scale as it was composited together by Richard Amsel from different pics for the illustration. I don't know where he got the body reference. He might have made it up judging from other pics.

Amsel is a professional painter, I am only an amateur, so take this for what it's worth.

I modify things sometimes in my paintings. Yeah, I wish I did everything exact sometimes, but I cut corners, or paste things together in my paintings, or intentionally paint an article in which isn't there. Oopsie. No, really, I use the same light references, or improvise to balance a picture better.

That would also include, or rather wouldn't preclude, tweaking a buckle if I did something like, say, made the strap too wide/too thin, or wanted to lower the placement of it for aesthetic purposes, etc.

So unless you have picture references as well, or statements that he DID work from pic references and strove for dimensional accuracy, it seems like another apocryphal source.

Not trying to cut you down, just normalize expectations of what a painter does. Now, an artist, that's different than a painter...

As a matter in fact, in their spoof soap opera skit (As The Stomach Turns? maybe that was something else)...he was the aging father/grandfather sneaking around in a trenchcoat, flashing people while making these horrible slow whalesong noises...but he wasn't starkers, he was showing them his long johns w/ a panda bear face below the belt. "No, grampa, not the panda!" "Ooooooo-waaaaaaaaahhhhh!"

I myself was referencing a Simpsons episode when they had Tim Conway as a guest start on their variety show:

That in and of itse;f was a jibe at all the Scooby-Doo walk-ons he used to do in the 70s and early 80s

Ah, you got me. Now, if you'd asked me "What's a Henway?", which is the older joke the Simpson's were playing off of...
