Wested perceptions
For the second time in about the past year now, someone has referred to or thought my Wested was a "Members Only" jacket?!?!? The first time it happened was really bad, fronted out by the comedian on stage at the comedy club (that's what I get for sitting at the front stage side table). Now, I'm old enough to remember (O.K., I admit it, I had one) "Members Only" jackets. I don't remember them even being in leather, they were always some fashion colored fabric. How can "our" jacket be that mistaken? Uh, I furgetted, peeples is stoopid.

Actually, if I recall, the more elite "members" could afford leather versions of that very 80's jacket.
The Indy jacket looks NOTHING like a members only jacket, except for it's waist length fit
He probably had a handful of different jokes to use for different situations that pop up in the audience, and he just used you because you were as close to a M.O. jacket as he could find.
What did he say, BTW? Something like:
"A Members Only jacket??? What are you, the LAST member???"

I haven't heard that either. Members Only jackets were made of that really light airy nylon. I could see confusing a Wested with a bomber jacket, but a Members Only is a leap.
I think the best come-back there is to feign ignorance and force the person to explain to you what a Members Only jacket is (was).
"A Members Only jacket, you say? Hmm. What is that? I've never heard of it... Oh, you say it's a jacket from when? And who used to wear them?... Huh. And how do you know so much about these?"

Thanks Hemingway, everything makes sense now. I never knew those were referred to as members only. You guys are right, they don't look at all like a true bomber jacket, let alone a Wested Indy. I like in the first link how they describe it as belonging to a former male model...and that's important because? Insert your favorite Zoolander quote here.

I had a Members Only jacket as a kid too...I put a Ghostbusters patch on the arm and wore it with a proton pack. Theit were epaults I think, where I threaded the pack's straps...ah those were the days. Seems like they may have had an inside pocket just large enough to hold an Atari 2600 cartridge...
