Got my Paul Stenhouse

After noticing that there's a new post about Indy Croft's new Strain, I decided it's about time to hurry up and tell you guys that I got my new Stenhouse on Saturday!

Unfortunately, Paul had a very hard time getting some natural tan hides, due to the drought, so I got whiskey instead, but it's not too bad actually. It's the same length as my Keppler, 8'. I'll have to change the photos tomorrow, and get some natural sunlight shots, because in most of the pictures, the whip looks almost black. I'll update tomorrow for you guys.

It's still pretty stiff, but I'm working it out, and it's really loosened up so far.

Does the whip ever look whiskey colored in the films?

Here are my 3 photos:

(Yeah, something's gone a bit awry with my cracker)

Congratulations. The plaitting on that looks very nice. Mr. Stenhouse makes a terrific whip.

Oh, and in my opinion, the whip looks much like whiskey/saddletan in most of the shots where it is seen in Raiders. Now, in actuality, it was a natural tan hide, but the whips in the movies were very old, and as such, they had naturally darkened up a LOT.

GREAT looking whip! I would have to agree--even though the actual whip was natural in color, the whiskey is dead on as far as screen-accuracy. I'm sure the prop department had its way with the whips from the films and darkened them more, if they weren't already darkened.

I have done homework on whips, and I am definately going to get a Stenhouse soon. (I'm still waiting for my Wested TOD, so I figure one expensive gear item at a time - but MAN am I tempted!)

By the way, check out his site, the prices are DRAMATICALLY reduced. I was looking into a Strain until I saw this. Check it out:

Congrats on the whip McFly! I still want a Stenhouse, for that price maybe I'll get crazy and save for another one soon. Seriously though I'm very impressed with his whips and prices, and I went with a Strain b/c I had already saved my money to that amount and figured I might as well go for it. I don't regret it one bit. :D

Think I've been instantly hooked on whipcracking. Can one have too many whips at hand....I don't believe so. I also think it would be cool to have various vendor's whips, so look out Mr. Stenhouse, might still order one....not real soon, but it looks to be inevitable.

I have on of Paul's 10 footers and I absolutely love it. It's a rugged and well made whip that cracks like a cannon and looks incredible hanging from my belt.

That's it on the left next to my Joe Strain 8 footer.

Paul's da man. He keeps getting better. Excellent knot work and nice smooth, even taper. I have 4 of Paul's whips and they are mil-spec bullwhips. Now that he has dropped his prices. Hmmm....

That's new? LOVE the color! Once I get a sufficient amount of gear, and have some time to save up money, I'll get a natural tan whip myself. Maybe 10'. I've never cracked a 10'er though... But I've cracked a pocket bull! Those are pretty amazing, too!

Wow, I haven't checked up on this thread in a while... thank you everybody for your comments! I think the compliments should really go to Paul, yes, he did an awesome job. It took me a lot of lawn mowing to get this whip, I'm very proud of it. It also cost me my Keppler, but I don't mind that one bit. :D

Hi Shane,

I figured that I to should show some whip pic's of my Stenhouse 9footer along side of my 8foot Morgan.

Also, two new whips which were added to my collection,(both are Christmas gifts) a 12 plait 7footer, made by Mr. Strain Purchased through WSP and another 7foot, 16 plait bullwhip made from Deerhide by Mr. Adam Winrich.

Jim,
Nice collection. BTW, that comparison of Stenhouse and the Morgan was great. Paul is doing great work.

Adam and Sergie,
thank you, :) , I agree, Paul does amazing work, a true delight to throw.
I can
remember my Morgan starting out with that wonderful natural color
it didn't seem long at all, after lot of use in the sun and the adding of pecards sort of acted like suntan oil.
