Quick leather question

I'm thinking about buying a heavier jacket for the winter months, probably goatskin. I'm not too knowledgeable about all the different leathers yet... it may seem silly, but I like leather that really creaks when you move, even just a little. Which leather, would anyone say, is noisier in this regard?

LOL!!! Would you PLEASE turn down your jacket? I'm trying to read! I would say my authentic goat has a nice "volume" to it. It has a subtle creak with a nice tone, not too distracting, but not too quiet.

Excellent, that was my first pick.

"What? Oh, I'm sorry -- I couldn't hear you over my jacket."

Don't rule out horse, either - especially if, like me, the thought of a wardrobe of identical coloured jackets gives you the willies.

The horse hide "neighs" from time to time, but other than that... I haven't "listened" to any other jacket for comparison, although if they ever make a courderoy Indy jacket, it'd go "zzziifff! zzzifff!!! zzziifff!!!" when you walk.

 Not so much that, but I have considered horseside -- it's naturally water repellent, isn't it?

I'm thinking about buying a heavier jacket for the winter months
If you want the jacket for warmth, then you will want a cowhide jacket.
Cowhide is heavier, and more thick than the others, and its a better
insulator than the others.

If you want "creeky", then most leathers will get creeky below a
certain temperature except for goat. For some reason, goat retains
most of suppleness when it gets really cold.

If you are looking for water repellancy over warmth, then go with either
goat or horse. Goat being slightly more water repellant than the horse.

If you want a real winter jacket, get a B-3 made of shearling. You won't
find a warmer leather jacket than that. And the outer finish is made to
repel water, gas, oil and most anything you can put it thru. That is, a
B-3 made by a vendor that reproduces the WWII sprayed on finish,
like Aero, Eastman, Real McCoys and Lost Worlds. I do not know if the
B-3 that Wested makes is accurate to what a real WWII B-3 should be.
I think theirs is more of a modern jacket with a resemblence to a
WWII B-3, while still being made of shearling.

Okay, another question. I have an authentic lamb. I'm thinking I want it a shade or two darker, more like the standard lamb. Is there any recommended process for this? I don't have much time to peruse the forum. I know I may have to dye it; I'm just looking for options.

I thought it might. Was going to do that tonight anyway.

Oh yeah, that it is. It's amazing in rain :)

Hey, Rob----does the horsehide jacket creak? You could hear me comin' from a mile away in my seal chrome goat Expedition but I don't think I've handled a horsehide jacket before.

Well, I treated my jacket, and no dice. The color is still the same. I'd hate to have to re-dye it. Any other ideas on how to darken it a bit?

My ToD goat makes a lot of noise :) Be sure to use plenty of conditioner. I think it causes the sound. The tougher hides probably make the most noise (goat, horse and cow).

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll be going with goat for my next jacket.

But first, I want an HJ
