Wish I had a picture of this, but I was just on the Ohio Turnpike and when I was paying my toll, the lady at the booth was wearing a light gray shirt with epaulets, pleated pockets, AND the extra strips of fabric running up the fronts (they were slightly narrower, but they were there.)

This leads me to wonder if we could search for cheaper alternative shirts by browsing in places that sell uniforms, rather than "safari-type" shirts. This will have to be investigated! If anyone's already done this sort of research, please let me know. Otherwise, we're on a brand new hunt again!

(I imagine we could get the shirt by becoming a Ohio toll booth collector, but I'm sure this method is less than feasible for many of us...)

That's darn close, but the pocket flaps were straight, and the strips of fabric were definitely wider. (But not as wide as the pocket pleats themselves, though.)

Good lord, points for trying alright! Of course, if you COULD **** the color out of that, I wonder if anyone'd even notice the slight differences...a white on white thing, you know...I guess you'd still need wider pleats on the shirt body above/below the pockets.

...I'm surprised it's not polyester...I've seen the duct-tape fedoras, but has anyone done an all-poly-Indy?

I've wondered how long it will take some rich nut to get the top-notch screen-accurate high-end versions of all the gear, dye it all a deep blue-purple, and go around as Indigo Jones... ...and if anyone comments on it, just pretend he isn't THX calibrated...

...now that's just not right! And...okay, I'll go sit in the corner again...

I've seen the same type of shirts when browsing around too. I learned that they have pleats running down the back in some cases. But, if the pockets look OK and you can get a couple of them pretty cheap, they might be easily modified. (Using material from one of them to put on the other, like JAN has done.) I've seen white shirts of the same kind go on eBay for around $10 or so.

Maybe you can ask about the shirt on your way back.

The shirt pictured is a uniform shirt. These shirts usually have scalloped pockets flaps.

I can't see it in the picture, but I saw in the description that it has the badge tab with reenforced sling. This means it has extra material sewn to the inside of the shirt above the left front pocket and two buttons holes sewn through the shirt. This is to reenforce the shirt material so that it doesn't rip from wearing a bage above the left front pocket all of the time. Since it is sewn in, I don't know how you would ever remove it.

Those are not pleats on the front of the shirt, they are sewn in military creases. These shirts sometimes do come with military creases sewn into the back of the shirt also.

I have a bunch of these shirts in a light grey. They are not very Indyesque. To see what they look like, just take a close look at anybody in a law enforcement, fire department, or security uniform.

That's the closest non-Indy shirt I have seen....Good find.

yeah, I've been on the uniform shirt trail for a while, too. They can be found cheap and are easily modified. But as mentioned they almost always have scalloped pockets. And that pleat down the front is just that; a pleat, not a seperate decorative strip. Also try a search for "work shirt" as opposed to "uniform shirt". You'll find a few that are suitable but they usually have no pocket flaps. You'd have to create those.

I suggest doing a google search for 'security shirt or 'guard shirt''.
You'll find lots of them, but beware of short sleeved ones.
Maybe a white one is the best one to go for in order to dye it later?
