This is carried over from MK's recent umbrella post so as not to drift too far OT in that thread - the debate was whether this pic confirms the LC jacket was lambskin - in my opinion, it does.
EDIT: I've removed the picture and just posted a link as I remembered the 500x500 pixel size rule and this was bigger.

Great photo! No doubt...this jacket appears to be lamb...tell tale sign is the slight "puff" on collar....however...this MAY NOT be the jackey I saw at Smithsonian...the one at the Smithsonian had a very distinct set of three tight folds at the very bottom of the left sleeve...as if the sleeve was too long and it kept getting compressed somehow. Great photo!

Very good, gentlemen! I thank you for this move. Now you see why I now believe there must have been a mix of jackets, as to many folks have stated they see cowhide on the museum jackets, and yet this photo definitely speaks 'lambskin' to me. Regards. Michaelson

It has to be lamb. It's the way the light hits it that gives it away.

Interesting to notice that this jacket seems to have a brass zipper instead of nickel which was on the original Raiders jacket..

Well, the 'nickel' zip on the Raiders jacket was actually an aluminum zip they had painted a brass color, but it wore off as the movie progressed. It was supposed to BE brass, but they didn't have any on hand when the Raiders jackets went out the door, so the quickly painted substituted zips were installed. All jackets after that were brass. In danger of veering OT again, that HJ looks great doesn't it?
The colour and thickness of the felt looks quite unlike the current HJ's - it looks very 'Optimoesque'.
(Maybe I should repost the pic again in the fedora section?
)

Thanks, glad to know.

Well that pic certainly proves one thing.
It proves that Ford is the best 'finger wagger' in the business - no-one can wag a finger quite like Harrison Ford. He uses the 'finger wagging' technique to great effect through the majority of ESB and LC - but not so much in Raiders or TOD strangely enough. Raiders would be a better movie if it had a few more finger wags.

al,
I think if you look closely you'll find him pointing in almost every film he's in. Check it out. If you have a Harrison Ford film fest, everyone should drink every time he points.

Simmo, if you want to distress your LC jacket, Dale (whipwarrior) is the man to talk to. I've seen that jacket in person and it is truly a work of art. It looks even better than the photos.

I think the photo does prove it's lamb. It also proves something else; it was very hastily distressed. When I did my first Wested I didn't quite know what I was doing. If you lay it flat and distress the front and then the back of the sleeves you have two creases where it's folded. This area does not get distressed, and you have to go over that part again. If you don't you get that "striped" effect, JUST like in that photo.

Yeah, I've never really liked the LC jacket because of those stripes, and the sort of blue-ish tint that shines through between them. Never thought it has the bad***, hero quality of the both the Raiders or the ToD.
Just my 2 cents.
