Whip Enthusiasts - Dallas - Next Weekend
Posted: Sat Sep 25, 2004 11:09 am
Just a reminder - Only one more week for the WE annual gathering in Dallas. There will be lots of whip crackers, whip makers, and just whip enthusiasts in general descending on the Dallas area Oct 1, 2, and 3.
Competitions galore. Accuracy, speed and accuracy, and prescision contests for the targeting crowd. Also single/two-handed whip handling and freestyle competitions for the multiple cracking crowd.
There will be plenty of whip cracking, instruction, as well as lots of good natured BS and telling lies. Also drawings and raffles for lots of neat stuff. There is a pretty fine looking whip that was donated by Martin from Australia that is the featured prize so far.
Folks are coming in from Oklahoma, Florida, Missouri, New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and probably from other states as well. Last year there were around 45 in attendance and they are expecting more this year. I think there will be several whipmakers there also, Robert Duke, Drew Schrag, Milo Bennett, Terry Yahr, and yours truely. Not sure who else will be there.
So grease up those whips, brush off that Fedora, and come on out for a good time. Let's see if Robert Duke can defend his Overall Championship, or will someone from Florida or Missouri step up. I guess I better get out and practise a bit more to see if I can defend my medals too.
Just a sidenote. That is also OU-texas football weekend at the State Fair, so the place is going to be overrun with Sooners and teasips. If you don't have a room reserved you may have to sleep in your car!
See you there.
