Anybody think LC collar too big?

Hey all,
I have'nt logged in to the forum for a while since I moved, and the gear bug has bit me again. I'm going to be ordering another wested soon. I'm torn between the ToD and LC styles. Just wanted to hear some opinion on the LC collar. It looks awfully big in pictures or maybe it is just decieving. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Walker

Looks fine on my jacket... before I bought the jacket, I figured that an average sized male, or larger, will look fine with the LC collar. Now that I wear one every day, I've concluded that I was right. It might look odd on smaller people... but if you're a reasonably broad bloke, it sits there looking completely normal to my eyes.

If anything, it's only the COW folk here who tend to freak out over the size difference which, in reality, is pretty darn small.

Well I'm about 5'10" and 170lbs. Kinda of a cross between average build and on the small side. So I can't say if the collar would be too large looking on my frame. Maybe some people with LC jackets and similiar builds could offer some insight.

If you don't think it'll work out, you can always ask that the collar be sized down a bit.

It can take a little getting used to, but once done, it's not even noticable anymore...at least that's MY story when I got mine. (grins) The situation (as it was once told to me) was that when LC came along, Wested could not find the original patterns for the jacket. They went by memory, adding the little items that Lucas wanted for the journal pocket etc., and it wasn't until the jackets were ready to go out the door for production that the patterns resurfaced. That's why the larger collar, and other little differences you see on this particular jacket. Personally, I'm glad this happened, as it makes this jacket special and an item all it's own of the 3 movies. Regards. Michaelson

When the winter winds hit, turning up the LC collar offers just a little bit more protection. I also like the LC collar because it seems to stand up better than the Raiders/TOD ones.

Good point again, MIKEY. Me being 6 feet 1 1/2 inches, and 200 pounds, I guess I can get away with the larger collar. Regards. Michaelson

My basic feeling is that it would look funny on you. Whereas for me; pushing 6'2", 48" chest and over 200 pounds... it looks quite normal.

You know, being 5'8"-5'9" myself, ya'll convinced me as well that if I'm gonna do an LC jacket, I'll order it w/ a Raiders collar for that reason.

But I'm kind of curious...how tall is HF?

It didn't look all THAT big on him, but that might have been because they distressed it and curled it right...and didn't use any shots where it looked like it was disco-sized.

imdb has harrison listed as 6'1, which means he is 5'11. The agents always add 2 inches.

Check the Internet for collar sizes on authentic vintage A-2s from the early 40's. That should help you determine if the collar is sized for the period. I'm thinking that the collars were full sized in the thirties and forties. Seems like collars, lapels, and hat brims diminished in size as the fifties arrived.

I agree. I've noticed the same thing lately while watching my movie serial collection. Collars were HUGE on jackets in the 30's! Regards. Michaelson

'Tis a good point...I'll go look at my own jackets...if that doesn't look to big (for my grapefruit-sized head) I may just do a straight LC and take it easy on Peter!

I am 6'1" but relatively lean. I think the collar is too big. In fact, I just received a TOD Jacket in goat and the collar was 3.25 inches. Just too big. I sent it back to Peter and asked for a 2.75 inch collar which is what I have on my Wested lamb. It looks perfect. I don't know why the collar is so big on the standard jacket.

Interesting. It usually isn't on the standard Raiders and TofD jackets? I wonder why you got an LC collar on your TofD jacket? Regards. Michaelson

That would explain his inseam.

Oh man ... I can feel another comment coming on ... need to go post on a different board asap. Be right back.

I appreciate the bigger collar simply because it's so different to other jacket collars.

I wonder if they made the collar slightly larger to compensate for Fords fuller face. He was definately a few sizes larger from Raiders to LC.
Kinda give him a slimmer appearance......no??
Man, I need a cup of java.

They had the wider collar to give Ford better lift in the airplane flying scenes. The true flying indy!

Blues, nah, the story goes that Pete conjured up the design from memory, and just added an inch or so more than he should have. Personally, I quite like it! :)

I agree Rob, it is a cool and unique look, that DOES bring a nice distinction from the other two jackets. I think that the larger collar needs the right person to go with it, like the different shaped fedoras. Some looks compliment your features, while others hinder them.

Ooh, great, another consideration...face spreading wider as I approach 40...need the LC collar?

Hee..."Peter, my facial width is 5", but it looks like more of a 6" in the right light. What would you suggest?"

P.S. Gosh I hope no one takes that seriously. <-- I meant me, not you guys.
