getting a handle on the handle.

So I am watching the trilogy and I noticed something, I noticed that our fedora wearing hero wears his whip several different ways, the most noticeable difference is the whip handle , I always thought the handle fell off the curl in the front , but now I see that he wears it both ways, I did discover that when I wear my whip with the handle in the front of the curl it bangs into my knee and those things can hut like heck  !!!especially when you run.oh well just an observation..I do think it is more practical in the front , it is easier to get to and it looks better IMHO.
what do you guys think?

Yep... and when you run, and the whip uncoils a bit more for every step, you'll have even more of the thong & handle swinging at you... the pendulum-motion may cause the handle hitting you in the face! #-o
Running with scissors... or whips... very dangerous.
Seriously, I don't believe any whip holder can keep a moving heavy whip for long - the best (but less screen-accurate) way is to secure the whip with something... a strap, velcro, duct tape...

It is not really the whip holder that is a problem for me I have one by Todd's Costumes, and it works great.it is adjustable. :D

I have the Todd's adjustable whipholder too (and I like it a lot), but sometimes the whip comes loose anyway. Especially when trekking with a packed Mk VII on top of the whip, I've noticed.

You guys should try the NH attached whip holder. You could probably fit two whips in it, it's so loose. The weight of the DM thong pulls the handle to the floor on its own.

Last yr., I had to nylon zip-tie the coil together, just so the whip didn't uncoil to the floor.

If your whip keeps coming loose, even with the Todd's Costume setup, you might want to try one of Gery Deer's 2-piece whip holders.

(Available at www.gldenterprises.net/Shopping.htm)

It consists of a piece of leather backed with velcro that holds the whip coils together, and the riveted leather belt strap. When you strap the whip to your belt, you put the velcro/leather piece behind the whip holster. The leather velcro won't pull through the belt strap, so the weight on the handle won't can't pull the thong loose.

They don't allow for IMMEDIATE quick draw, but they work great, and keep the whip firmly where it's supposed to stay, and look great at that, (and sure beat the Lucasfilm alternative of stitching the darned whip to the belt!)

Gery's holsters were used along side some of Paul Nolan's whips in the movie "The Rundown," and the stunt guys loved them! There are several versions available, (including an "Indy" style.) But if you really like your own whip holster, just get sick of the thong sliding out, you can also just get the velcro/leather "keeper"piece, which should be fully compatible with your existing holster.

And, no I don't work for Gery. Just like his stuff.

Best of luck!

Has anyone tried putting the handle of the whip in the holster? I've done that and it stays in place better. Typically the handle is narrower than the thong, and can stay in place. It might move around a little bit between the butt foundation and the turk's head knot between the handle and thong.

It won't smack you in the knee, either!
