What's the furthest you've gone to pick up your Aldens???

Just curious. I think I remember reading an old thread where a member drove 2 hours to pick up a pair of Aldens. I might be in the same boat as there are 3 shops close to me and they are all about 2 hours away.
I could also order online from Aldenshop, but then I run into the problem of ordering the wrong size(I'm pretty sure I know my size, but better safe than sorry). And the shipping is crazy. $40.00US to ship to Canada VIA UPS....plus add the $50+ UPS brokerage fee means more than a third of the cost will be for shipping.

I drove about 1800 miles (Seattle to Fredrick Basic Shoes) ... kind of. I was going to order a pair, then decided to wait and have Fritz take my measurements and buy them from him while I was down for the QM gathering.

Well for my old pair I went about 20 miles. For my new pair, I went from St. Louis to San Francisco....although getting the Aldens wasn't the sole purpose of my trip.
Actually it wasn't even a purpose--I was just in town and thought I would pop on down and I decided that it would be a pretty good time to get a new pair. It was kind of funny that when I went in with my older looking beat up pair, the guy behind the desk didn't think anything of it (he even gave me a new pair of shoe laces)! Anyone else gone to that store with some rugged Alden's?

Same here...only I came from Texas...I'm not sure how many miles that is, but it's probably more than from Seattle...although I wasn't planning to get them at the time, but Fritz offered them to me at a great price and they were 1980's stock to boot. I couldn't resist.

Did I read that right ITG? How in the world did they still have a 80's stock boot? How long ago did you get these?

indy81, Yeah, you read that right. I got them in June 2003. Since I have a smaller foot than most guys (but big foot for a girl), he still had some 9C's that hadn't sold.

I will be going from St. Louis to San Francisco in about 6 weeks.
Of course I’ll have my Aldens on. We will be staying 5 or 6 blocks from the Alden shop, so I plan on walking over. Don’t need a new pair though, but I will stock up on laces.
1735 miles to buy shoelaces for my “Indy boots”........sounds OK to me.....

Forrestal

Forrestal, I think I may have gotten mine free. Maybe it's something about being from St. Louis, then again, it might just be my shoddy memory.
Btw, a trip from StL to SF isn't a bad idea for shoelaces--my father used to fly from StL to NY to have lunch on a whim, and then fly back. Quite the day trip!

Free or not, I plan on picking up about 10 pair of laces.
That way I can quit searching all over town for something that works.

I actually did find something here in St. Louis that works once...........
but it's been so long I've forgotten. Actually I've been forgetting a lot lately--I may be losing my mind.

P.S. YES only maybe!
How far would I go?

I flew from Michigan to San Francisco. Of course, that was on my way to Australia. My flight got delayed by chance, and I took it upon myself to explore the city, where I luckily stumbled upon the Alden shop and got myself a pair!!!

Well, I said I wasn't gonna to spend that much on a pair of shoes and when we went into Fritz's shop, I couldn't resist. Ken sounds like we both had pure intentions, but couldn't resist the Aldens placed in front of us. Hahaa!
