Hey all,

Here are a few pictures of my new 8' x 12 plait Indy style Kangaroo Bullwhip, made for me by COW’s own Jerry R.!

It has three bellies, (4 plait, 6 plait, and 8 plait) over a rolled leather core and a 3/8" steel rod handle core. Each belly is sinew wrapped at the handle/thong junction. The thong is slightly weighted and the whip is nicely balanced - no kickbacks. The whip is 12 plait overlay ending in an 8 strand fall hitch.

The knots are typical Indy style, multiple pass 4 bight Turk’s heads. The hang strap is 6-strand flat plait. The fall is 30" of rolled horsehide. And the whip is finished with three coats of natural clear shellac.

It cracks great with a very smooth movement!

I’d like to thank Jerry very much for making this for me, to my own specifications.

In trade, Jerry now owns my 10 foot EmBrand Indy whip made by Bernie in Australia – I hope she cracks well for you Jerry and gives you many years of service; as for me, I could not be happier with my whip, it not only meets but exceeds my expectations – I am delighted with it!

I can heartily recommend Jerry’s work to anyone considering an Indy bullwhip purchase – Jerry is a great guy to deal with and more importantly, he makes one *$$! of a whip!

Nice looking whip, Al. What exactly did you specify when ordering it? Was there anything in particular you wanted to have built in with this one?

Well, I really had no experience prior to this of ordering a whip from 'scratch', so it was a learning curve for me. Jerry was great to work with and always able to offer advice if I needed it - my basic specs initially were 8ft natural roohide, medium weight, custom length/width handle to fit my hand size comfortably and of course the Indy styling with the turks head etc. Later on, I made the choice for the three bellies and I'm glad I did.

This whip feels great for me - that's the nice thing, it's a custom and it's exactly what I need in a whip. I'm very happy with it. :D

I really hope I get a chance to try one of Jerry's whips sometime. From the pictures I've seen, his work looks amazing! One of the most underrated whipmakers around, imo. And a heck of a great guy to boot!

I think your right Dittmer, Jerry is underrated at the moment- that would not be the case if everyone tried one of Jerry's whips, IMO he ranks up there with the best of them.

And no, I'm not just saying that because I own a Jerry R whip - I'm saying it because I can see and feel the quality of his work first-hand, and because I know I could not be happier, regardless of the maker.

If anyone is considering a new whip, try Jerry out - you won't regret it.

As a fellow whipmaker and one that has handled quite a few of Jerry R's whips let me say he is very good.
He is one who has a lot of attention to detail. He knows an incredible amount of fancy plaiting if you wanted your name or initials braided into the thong and I've never seen anyone know so many different fancy turkshead knots.

Jerry,
Can you show us a picture of your "knotty-stick" with names besides each knot?

2 thumbs up for this whipmaker. He's very good!

That’s Gorgeous bullwhip Ob1al. The plaiting lookes especially good, Another fine example of the whipmakers craft!

I have been seeing some of really impressive whipmaking work on this board, and its great to see. We may each be partial to our favorites, but my hat goes off to each and every one of these fine crafts men and women and the work they are doing.

All the Best
