A few weeks ago I was shooting my gun out at the range. One odd thing it was doing was the cylinder was rotating past one of the shells and the firing pin was striking the brass. You can see it here.

I took the gun to Tip Burns and he was able to correct the problem in just a few days. Now, the gun shoots great. I captured some good video footage while I was at the range on Friday. I'll post it as soon as I can.

The lesson here if you are having problems while shooting these old guns, make sure too have them checked out. It's impossible to know the detailed history of these gun and what abuse they may have been through.

Did Tip Burns say what might have been causing the mis-rotation of the cylinder? Just wondering, as I'm planning on taking mine out in the next couple of weeks.... I just had mine field cleaned and fire-tested, and everything checked out just fine. But just to be absolutely safe....

Timing, plain and simple. Sometimes the cylinder stop (or hand, if you're talking Colt) will not stop the cylinder in the proper location in the chamber notch if firing double action. It can also be a problem back at the paw that pushes the star upward to rotate the cylinder. To much end play, or worn, it, too, will cause the problems seen here. I've had a Colt Python do this before. It also punctured primers! That ain't fun! That one actually got recalled to the factory!
