Redferne's whip from Warlock

Post by thefish »

I was feeling a little nostalgic, and rented the movie "Warlock" with Julian Sands and Richard E. Grant from Netflix.

Now I'd remembered that Grant's character, the Witch Hunter, Redferne, had carried a rather long, (about 20 foot,) black bullwhip, but had never really taken a good look at it. I figured it was probably a badly done, and rather crummy prop, as it's never really used correctly in the film.

Well, I was watching it last night, and got a pretty good look at it in a couple shots, and it looks like a really long Indy styled whip because it seemed to have australian-styled plaiting (that herringbone pattern) with an integral handle, (not attached piece of wood like an american bullwhip, but the fox and geese plaiting, and the handle looked to be the short 8" Morgan Indy type.)

Does anyone in their travels know anything about this whip? Is this a badly maintained Morgan someone dug out of a prop room? I figure with the folks here, someone may know. Yeah, Warlock's a cheesy, low-budget movie left over from the late 80's, but it's still a fun flick.

Thanks,

Dan

You know,
I've wondered the same thing,
I just always took it for granted that is was a roo bullwhip, Australian made,
Redferne loved using those under handed cracks didn't he, .

I especially liked the part, where he was chewing on the fall
and said he was salting the leather,
you'd think the fall would have been already alum tanned Whitehide,
but that would have probley taken away from the script, hahaha.

But yeah,
the whip does remind me of an earlier Indy or Zorro type bullwhip,
it looked possibly like a 12 plait thong as well.

Cheers!
