'Toy Gun' Help

Every toy gun you find has that orange tip right?
How do you get that orange thing off, so the gun looks authentic (for my fanfilms).

There are probably a few different constructions out there but on my "dollar store" gun I just ripped the plastics right off by cracking it, careful not to harm the gun itself. Cracking it using a pair of plyers will work if you are careful. If the barrel is long you could always cut it to the 4" length and get rid of it that way.

What about the ones that seem to be in the paint itself? I have an Airsoft revolver and its got the blazed orange tip.

I have a few airsoft guns that had the orange tip. On one of them, I was able to use finger nail polish remover to take off the orange paint. Boy did I feel cool going to the grocery store and buying nail polish remover
However, I got a P99 for my James Bond collection where the paint wouldn't come off. I wound up taking off the slide and spray painting it black. If you're careful not to put on heavy coats, the paint is hardly noticeable. I've never had an airsoft six shooter though. They might be harder to paint.

How about some black electrical tape over the tip?

Yes, I have used back electrical tape before, but it doesn't look as real. Anyways, my dad and I worked on all of my guns, and we ended up cracking the orange tips, thanks to Swindiana's advice. As for the ones I had originally spray-painted, we cracked those as well.

I was reluctant to paint the tip in fear of it clashing w/ the factory paint they use. Trevelyan, I too have a couple of P-99s for my 007 collection. I tried scraping the paint off but it seemed as though the plastic was orange underneath, as if they use the orange plastic and painted it black (oppossed to the other way around). What will I do? "Don't know, think of somethin."

These are all great ideas, and I too have used Airsoft et. al. as props
but....
For the love of Murgatroid, PLEASE DO NOT CARRY THESE THINGS OUTSIDE UNCASED !
In many states, its a crime to even own anything that looks so real. Moreover, it can get you shot by a well-meaning policeman. It happened right here in NJ a few weeks ago.
In essence, just be careful and check your local ownership laws to be safe.

What many airsofters do in my area is they have a removable orange barrel tip which they remove once they reach the field. Some people also use an orange barrel plug. Make sure the orange tip or plug is attached to the gun at all times during transportation and when not in use.
You may also want to see what the local law enforcement will allow. They may be able to give you some sort of permit to exempt you from the orange barrel law while filming.
