I have a wested that is lined in cotton... very grippy. I have not worn a satin lined leather jacket before, though I am curious.

which do you preffer and why?

I went for the recommended cotton body/satin sleeves option. The body liner ain't that "grippy" - actually, it's quite a smooth material. Satin sleeves provide a smooth glide, no "entanglement"

Though a cotton lining is very "gripping", once on, it feels much more natural, especially if it gets hot and one begins to sweat. Satin has a very unnatural feel to it that I find uncomfortable. I don't mind having to grip the ends of my sleeves when I pull my other arm from its embrace when I take off my jacket. I like the feel of cotton.

I like the combo lining recommended for the Westeds; a cotton body with satin sleeves. The satin lining make it easy to push your arms through the sleeve, while the cotton body hugs you well and adds a little warmth.

I agree that the cotton lining isn't grippy at all. In fact it is remarkebly smooth!

I've had both the satin liner in my old Wested and the cotton body/ satin sleeves in my new one. I prefer the cotton over the satin (at least in the body part) only because the satin in mine had a tendency to rip if I was doing anything that involved a lot of arm movement. This was also partly due to the jacket being a bit tight on me. Another gripe with the satin body: My old Wested was the old design without leather facings and all that, and the satin lined area near the collar would occasionally rub against my chin and neck depending on how I was sitting (i.e. driving) or moving. Since I have been known to go without shaving for a day or so, the stubble I sometimes have, wore down the satin liner in that area into a fuzzy mess. I've had no problems like this with the cotton body.

I find my cotton liner helps the jacket "stay in place." My experience with the satin liner was one of constantly readjusting my jacket (hiking it up) because the jacket's weight would slowly pull it down in the rear so that the collar would be nearing the bottom of the back of my neck. I never have to readjust my Wested with the cotton liner.

Cotton body satin lining all the way. The jacket slips on and off easily but the body is super-comfortable. Also, I just like the way the satin feels in the sleeves... mmmmmm

I think I've said this before, but the only regret I have of my Wested is not going with the combo. If I were to get a new Wested, I would surely get the satin sleeves w/ cotton body. However, the color of my lining is nothing close to the screen accurate jacket lining. I think the "hero" jacket was satin all the way, tho I can't imagine why, being in the desert and all.

My 1st Wested had all cotton. No problem with it whatsoever. My 2nd which I just got has the cotton/ satin combo. I like just as well. If you wear lots of short sleeves the all cotton feels great. I think the satin sleeves help immensely with long sleeve shirts though as the jacket will move more freely and not get hung up.

It's up to you as both are great options.

I voted for cotton in the poll but I was meaning cotton for the body and satin for the sleeves.

Cotton body and satin sleeves - recommended and optimum.

I've owned and worn all 3 versions over the years, and come to the conclusion that I prefer the all cotton version. I was one of the first to inquire about the combo possibility of Peter way back when, as originally there was only the all cotton offering for the Wested jacket. Living in the South, I find that I wear more short sleeve shirts in a years time than long sleeve. As has been pointed out above, the satin lining in the sleeves stick to you once you get warm, and if you think COTTON grippy, wait until a satin lining grabs you! If I lived in a cooler clime, though, I'd opt for the combo again. The satin lining in the sleeves does indeed help with long sleeve shirts and sweaters. I've never been a proponent of the all satin lining. I was CONSTANTLY pulling the jacket back up on my shoulders, as the jacket would pull itself off under it's own weight and the satin's natural slickness, regardless of long or short sleeve shirt wear, and mine was a lambskin! I can only imagine the fight one would have with a heavier material, such as cowhide! I'll pass, thank you. Regards. Michaelson

Someone who understands! I love my G & B cowhide but I am forever pulling the jacket back up on my shoulders to make sure it wears and looks right.

How about some cotton pads inside the shoulders only?

And then moving on to the welcro and system of counter weights...

I think some strategically placed cotton in the satin lining would work though.

Where i live i'll take a cotton body and cotton sleeves much cooler combo.
