I have a three month old Wested Goat that is nicely broken in. Although I am very pleased with it I have noticed that the sleeves have "shrunk" more than I had planned on. At present, with the jacket zipped up the sleeves rest at about 1/2" below the bend of my wrist and unzipped at about 1" to 1 1/4" below the bend. Do you all feel that this is acceptable? or do you think that this is too short?

It sounds fine as it goes past your wrists either way. Are you bothered with it that much? You're the one who has to wear it. That's what counts. If you are really unhappy call Peter.

But if they are OK to you, next time if you want them a bit longer just measure this jacket's sleeves and tell Peter to add however much extra you would like.

I've had my Wested goat for several months now and have noticed the sleeves "shrink" a little. It doesn't really bother me, especially if it means parting with the jacket for any length of time. If I ever order another Wested in the future (which I'd LIKE to someday if I can get away with it!) then I'd probably add a little length in the sleeves, but I think it really comes down to personal preference.

I ordered my Goatskin a size larger, so as for the sleeves riding up, I'm okay so far.

However, in your situation, I "think" I recall Peter mentioning that you can simply ship the jacket back to Wested....and have new/longer sleeves placed on your existing jacket.

I've heard that many jacket owners have had their sleeves and back panels replaced at Wested. This saves you a lot of money it "would" have cost to buy a whole new jacket....and....is just one example of the quality customer service that Peter offers at Wested Leather.

now if he could ad gussets.. that would be something

I remember asking him about gussets when I ordered my jacket. He can do gussets; all you have to do is ask. (EDIT: Unless you mean adding gussets to an existing jacket. But I would think Peter could do just about anything.) As for the sleeve replacement, how much would that cost? I'm not planning to do it on my jacket, but for anyone interested, it would be nice to get a ballpark figure.

You didn’t mention where your Goatskin jacket’s sleeve rested originally. If like most people you got it with the sleeve length extending to the first knuckle of your thumb, that indeed REALLY is alarming to hear that it is now that short. I’ve never seen a goatskin have that much ‘ride up.’ Even for a lambskin that would be somewhat unusual to see that much material eaten up.

However, in the long run, if YOU are uncomfortable with it, that’s all that really matters. I wouldn’t worry TOO much if your long sleeve shirts aren’t sticking out too far beyond your jacket sleeves. However, if they do peek out more than say your average suit, try to see if a tailor can let the jacket sleeves out a bit. You’d be surprised at how much extra material they can extract. You may have to live with a bit of a folded-over look to the cuff, but in most cases it isn’t that bad, and certainly better than having too short a jacket sleeve, IMO.

Also, I’m fairly certain that the (1 piece) gussets that Peter uses on his jackets would not add anything to the sleeve length, they reside underneath the arm pit and are only meant for adding vertical flexibility in movement (in Wested’s case, I might add ‘supposedly’ since some ppl have experienced no appreciable difference if you look through past threads - it is not like those on say a G-1).

if i would like to send my jacket back, for alterations how long can i wait before its to late?
hade my wested raiders now for about 2-2,5 months and i would like to raise the backpanel a bit for better screen-accuracy,

You can wait as long as you want if you're paying for the alterations. Though I wouldn't expect Peter to alter it for free if it's not a defect. If it's just for screen accuracy better chalk it up to a spec. to ask for next round, when you buy another one.

Sorry I took so long to reply. My cheap computer crashed and I didn't have access to another.

To answer the question asking where my sleeves had originally rested when fresh out of the box.

I can say that they were actually shorter than I had planned on. Resting at about 1/2" above the first knuckle of my thumb. Which was about the shortest that I would allow (AFTER some shrinkage). So I quickly got on the horn to Wested and asked about how much more I could expect to loose in the length after some wear. Gerry told me that the Goat would only loose about a 1/2" overall and that the "perfect fit" in regard to the jacket would be to have the sleeves rest at about 1/2" below the bend of the of my wrist. Needless to say I didn't have much room to work with. So after a few weeks wear and getting caught in an unexpected Virginia downpour I now have sleeves that rest at the prescribed length (though alittle short for my taste). I was only curious to see if you all thought that they were too short or if I was cool. Thanx.
