I just bought mine from ebay for about $53.00 plus shipping, and haven't recieved it yet.

In what ways do ya'll use the bag?

You get a good strap... then you fill it with the stuff you use everyday.

In mine I have a compass, a few local topographic maps, cell-phone, digital camera, a small bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label (for emergency use only) the Official Dalexs Sandbag (never know when you’re going to need a sandbag) and a few Huggies for my favorite Thuggee.

Mine currently contains a sketchbook, a Moleskein notebook, business card holder, another small notebook for work stuff, Palm Pilot, checkbook, calculator, coin purse, sunglasses, a bunch of pens, and my car keys. But that can change in a moment's notice.

I have my a5 diary in mine, a few pens and pencils, a moleskine, my cell-phone and any other daily garbage.

Are you serious, Ren? You daily use a compass and topo maps?

Not everyday... once a month. If I have to wait, I like to pull one out and looking for obscure or lost trails.

I basically use mine for hikes or camping so I have a lenstatic compass, first aid kit, survival knife, deck of cards, spare poppers for the whip, mini maglite, small binoculars, some rope, sandbag, 1130 gloves, and a small bottle of water.

My wife called it my "man purse" the other day. (I've always carries a satchel of some sort) But that being said, she commented last night how cool she thought my Indy bag was, especially with how it was compartmentalised.

Same deal here! I do get some of the -The brown strap is much nicer you know...
I can't wait until she sees the shirt though. She has always liked the shirt, on screen at least...

I'm at "Story Time" with Coppertop, and one of the other dads are looking at me with envy and scorn. After the readings... he came up to me and held up a pink bag with white flowers and the words "Powder Puff Girls" in Neon...

How do you know your an Indyfan? When your "diaper bag" (complete with leather strap) is deemed "cool" by other dads. That's hilarious!

Well...

I think we've talked about this before, but I have a journal, my Land Rover day planner, some bills I have to mail and maybe some gum or Altoids.

I do use it a lot as a diaper bag...bottles, a few rags and a sucker thing the the baby. This was why I got it anyway...I was not goung to carry around that thing my wife uses!

I also put in a bag of peanuts or almonds, a spare flashlight, and a multi-tool.

Reporter's notebook, lots of pens, my Moleskin notebook, Wells Lamonts, Dentyne Ice, cell phone, Burt's Beeswax hand salve and lip balm, tape recorder, a copy of "Raider of the Lost Ark: the novelization" which I'm still trying to finish, a mini-book copy of the Dalai Lama's "Book of Wisdom", car keys and matches.

Oh yeah, and sometimes a bottle of water, and whatever press releases I accumulate over a week.

I do a lot of walking with my job, and before I had a Mk VII, I just carried a regular backpack, which started to give me some back problems. Purchasing the MK VII was the greatest investment I've made in a long time. My back feels better, and it's just a really efficient bag to carry around, both for the space it provides and the ergonomics of it.

To paraphrase Ren, "The MK VII...definitely the best bag I've owned in 20 years."

EDIT: How can I forget the most important item...a bag of Beef Jerky!

I enjoy the Indiana Jones bags as a "travel bag." A lot of MKV I and MKV II bags, original and repro have come through my door, but the new WPG bag is now my last bag that I will ever need

I put in shampoo, toothbrush, spair contact lenses, ect.....when not traveling, I just use it to put my Bible in and various mini Christian books.

I use my bag on warm days, like today. I stuff it with my cellphone, card holder, diary, lighter, keys and a thin wool sweater, just in case.
My bag's not the real thing, but an army-style bag I picked up in an H&M store (major clothes line in Scandinavia) and put a leather strap on. It's still very neat, and slightly more practical than the real thing, I think.

Well, "I got it and I used it!"
I went to Boston (a long way from Tennessee) to pick up a car.
And I put my toothbrush, socks, etc. in the bag and instead of carrying a suitcase into the hotel, I carried my MK VII instead. Works great.

Yeah, I'm sure there has been a couple of threads on this very topic in my relatively short time here on the boards.

However, I use bag for...well, carrying stuff which I might need.

It's great for trips and outings, great for use with the kids and babies and generally just a neat little bag.

Whatever anyone says, it IS a man-purse - make no mistake about it.

But wear it and be proud. Only real men can carry off man-purses.

I told my girlfriend about this and now she calls my MK VII my "man-purse."

Ordered the WPG MKVII at the beginning of the month and got it a few days later. I've already worn it on a couple of outings.

I pack a moleskin notebook, some pens, water bottle, flashlight, and my cellphone.

And I've found that in stores where you'd usually have to check in a backpack or the like, they didn't say anything to me about my man-purse.

My wife used my MKVII yesterday as a 'changing bag' for the kids.

She was so impressed, she immediately asked me to buy her one!

So, I just bought another bag and strap from WPG - always happy to make another Indy gear purchase.

I was out with the wife last night and I made a comment about my bag being a "man purse." She laughed and agreed that it was, indeed, a man purse. She also cracked up when I told her about those of you who have used a Mk VII for a diaper bag.

Yesterday I carried my Cotton Raiders in my MKVII for a little while, as it was too hot to wear it!

...and for some reason, my cat likes to crawl into my MKVII and go to sleep. I've scared the h**l out of both me and her on several occassions when quickly grabbing my bag on my way out.

She keeps doing it. My cat isn't the brightest.

Hahahaha! The next addition to the lists of MKVII uses is a cat sleeper!:P

Mk VII Port-A-Pet

I just mine recently. I have to wash it and then carry stuff in it.

The new WPG MKVII I ordered for my wife arrived yesterday - super quick shipping!

The new bags are a lot greener than the old tan-coloured batch, and the strap is a much more accurate chocolate brown, rather than the old red-brown colour issued with earlier bags. Oh, and the golden buckle has gone, replaced with a very nice silver buckle as seen on the NH / Keppler straps.

Aside from the new colour being a little too green for my tastes, the improvements are a big success - well done WPG!

So I'm guessing the upgrade is worth it? I have an older WPG bag and I've been thinking about getting the greener ones with a more correct strap. Are those the only upgrades?

The changes I noticed are - Greener colour; 'Browner' strap and the leather feels like it's better quality; silver, more accurate buckle.

Aside from that, the bag feels a lot stiffer and more robust, but that's probably more due to my old bag having been 'field tested' to the extreme...

She's still holding up well though.

BTW, you could consider just getting a new strap or having one made for you?

Despite my being a frog (see avatar) I think I still prefer the old tan colour, although the green does have it's own charms.

I concur. I feel that the canvas is of a much higher quality on the new green bag. And the leather is defintely thicker. A good purchase.

As I don't know much about notebooks, I just thought I would ask you why most of you have a moleskin notebook? (i.e. what is the advantages of moleskin?)

Someday soon, I'll have to sum up what everyone uses their bag for.

Moleskine has several handy sizes with, lined, graph-grids, or plain paper. Mine has a handy built-in pocket inside the back cover for expense receipts and the like. They have a ribbon page holder, and a built in elastic band to hold the thing closed. I travel quiet a bit for work, and I'm always stuffing some newspaper clipping, or item of paper in there. I use my book to write down story ideas, do sketches, write down the names of my cab drivers, their nationalities, and a phrase or two in their language. (Oddly there are many Nigerian cab drivers in Dallas.) I've also been known to stuff CDs into mine, to save space in my carryon bag. (I don't use the MK VII, I use a british WWII Shell Dressing bag.)

Took Coppertop to see his first movie in a theater Wends. Used the Mark7 bag to carry a few things in such as his diapers, whipes and bottles. (I left the Johnny Walker at home.)

When you have a kid AND a MK-VII bag... it's amazing how organized you are. Usually I see parents panic while they juggle the kids and bulky diaper bags.

I'd panic, too, if I had to juggle kids. I keep dropping them after I toss them into the air.

The more I use my MKVII the more I find it's the best organizational bag I've ever carried. The way the compartments are sectioned up is perfect for my needs. I only wish it were a tad larger sometimes, but I'm not complaining!
