Reducing the shine on a Wested Lamb

What would be the best way to reduce the shine on a Wested Lamb without actually giving it a distressed look. I've had my jacket for two years now and it is starting to show some natural distressing, but there is still that new shine.
I was thinking that dabbing the jacket with a ball of cloth soaked in acetone might do the trick, rather than actually rubbing it to remove the dye.
I don't want to apply any abrasives to the jacket, such as sandpaper.
Any suggestions?
Also, I recently aged a WPG bag strap using a brown, waterproof liquid shoe polish, including the inside of the strap. As yet, there has been absolutely no sign of transfer of dye on to my shirt. A matt varnish can also be applied to seal in the color.
I aged the front of the strap dabbing on a turpentine based wood stain, which left a fantasic dirty aged look, as well as darkening the original color. This would give a great durable look to a distressed jacket around the seams, where fuller's earth is normally applied.
