I have a Joe Strain 8 footer and I was wondering what it should weigh? It seems a bit on the light side, it cracks just fine, but it does seem a bit light. To me it should have a little more heft to it. Thanks. :whip:

wait untill the whip goes smoother at the time, than the whip will feel heavier. Joe's bulls are not lightweight's (I have the same like your one), but very nice and tight braided. That seems to make a light whip if they are new and not broken in.

Also,
if you are a person who is use to lifting a lot of weight on a daily basis for instance, will fine that most whips in general are a bit light, but , the ones that are perfectly balanced, such as Joe's will roll out and crack using minimal muscle power.

But ,
I'm not sure that there is an absolute weight to go by as a rule of thumb,
I have whips that are moderately heavy and crack great, but after lots of use can get a bit tiring, then there are the whips I have that are lighter in weight, as it seems, which feels like I could go on cracking for ages,
so I guess it begins to fall under personal preference.

I'm just thinking out loud  .

All the best.

I have a Joe Strain 6' Indy style, and a Australian style 8'.
I usually end up cracking for about 30 minutes to an hour, and the 8 footer gets so heavy, so I enjoy a lighter weight whip.
