New WPG REPRO bag Review!! (PICS)

Let me first say wow, the color on this bag is alot more accurate to what we see on the screen. There are so many different shades of the MK VII, but Jerry definately comes close with this one. The cotton canvas has about the same texture as the 1st generation bag. Both the vent holes, and the side waist disc are the same as the 1st gen. bag as well. Another thing I noticed, is that there is no center divider again, no big deal. Also the canvas pieces that hold the nickel "O" rings are tan, which ads a bit of contrast....

Now, the strap. As you can see in the pic Jerry put up the strap is a much darker brown, and the buckle is has a silver finish. The underside is still unfinished. The strap is configured in the exact same way as the 1st generation, with a similiar screw post at the one end, and rivets near the buckle. The last straps were made by a certain vendor of ours, Im not sure if these straps were also, as certain "nuances" are missing....

Overall, I think Jerry did a great job with the new bags, the color is alot closer to the movie MK VII's, and the strap is a bit more pleasing to the eye as well!

Does anybody want to see certain pics? Ill try to get some comparison shots of the WPG MK VII, and some authentic MK VII's for color comparison later today.

Regards
I J

IndianaJames,

Thanks for the review. I can't wait to see the pics. What I am curious about is how the snap covers compare with both the older WPG and a MK VII. Also, I would like to see a size comparison between it and a MK VII. The older WPG looked much bigger than a MK VII. I would also like to see how the disc compares to a MK VII and lastly, a side by side comparison of each of the bag's interiors would be great.

I know this is a lot to ask, but you were taking requests... If you could describe these differences, that would be great too.

So, do you already possess one of these or do you know Jerry at WPG?

Thanks a lot for all of your efforts. I think this bag has great promise.

EDIT: The addition of the phots above made some of my questions mute! Thanks.

It does look like the same snap covers to me. I never really liked them when I had the WPG. They could easily be changed to flat brass ones though. Just a matter of personal taste, as usual with this gear stuff... 8)

I gotta question, how the heck is that bag strap supposed to go on? It looks like the strap ends on the buckle!

Nevermind, I figured it out (although I had to use a piece of paper and a paper clip to vizualize it :P )

Dont feel bad, I had to stop and think about it too!!

Hemingway, the inside of the bag looks exactly the same as a regular mk VII just without the divider. Do you want any other pics?

No, IJ,
I think I have a good idea of it. Thanks a lot. And afterall, for $40 or so, how can you go wrong? It looks like a great bag.

Maybe I am getting old, but didn't these used to cost like $15 a peice for an orignal from WWII?

Fedoraman,
I recently bought one from SOF in the UK for $24, but it had the now infamous black stripe. Generally, it was in good condition and I use it proudly. However, no matter what shape an original is in it cannot match the condition of the reproduction. So, if you want something brand new, the WPG is for you. You can distress it, or not, in any fashion you see fit. $40 is not an odious sum. Mint MK VII bags on eBay can fecth upwards of $75.

I haven't seen one for $15, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities. If someone is looking to find a bag to complete their set, they could do a lot worse than the WPG, especially after the improvements that IJ described.
Best of luck,
HJ

No biggie, if someone wants a brand new pristine MK bag to distress as they see fit - cool.

I have a couple original bags and one repro from WPG, his orignal repro with the lighter color. It's great. I just ordered one of these newer darker bags. Can't wait to get it!
