Got it but have a few qestions

Post by soulman »

I got my Wested Auth. Goat the other day and I think that it's really cool. However, I did notice a couple things and want too be sure that all is well. So if anyone out there could answer a question or two I would be grateful. Here it goes.

1. I noticed that the jacket pleats tend to stay open more than I thought they would. Is this common?

2. Compared to a G&B Goat of the same size, the Wested fits more snug across the shoulders. Is that normal?

3. My sleeves came back a touch shorter than I had planned on. When I put the jacket on the cuff end came to about 1" below the bend of my wrist. Do you think that i'll be alright due to the fact that Goat really doesn't ride up that much?

Let me say that I don't plan on returning my jacket. I would simply like to put a few curious thoughts to bed. Thanks in advance for your input!

I think we'd best be able to answer your questions if you provided pictures, as it's hard to visualize the problems just from despcriptions.

I've had my goats a couple of weeks, so my experience is limited, but here are my observations:

1) My pleats tend to stay open a little bit.
2)Its kind of hard to tell without pictures. I thought mine was a little snug, even after having the armholes made bigger. But it has loosened up as the jacket has broken in.
3)One inch below the wrist sounds fine to me. I haven't noticed my sleeves shortening any.

1. It's not common after a few years of use, but as a brand new jacket, you may want to ask Peter if you are dissatisfied about that.

2. Mine was a bit snug around the shoulders and upper arms as well. I went up a size and it has the loose fit I desire now.

3. 1 inch below the wrist....it depends how big your hand is. The sleeve should stop at your first thumb knuckle. In my experience, any shorter than that and it feels a bit awkward when reaching or driving. Walking/standing it looks okay, but any movement and it rode up a bit much for my comfort.

Hey,

I own a goatskin jacket for a few weeks now. And your problems sound familiar.

1. The pleats always stay a little open on my jacket. I find the pleat behavior very reasonable, especially since I don't have the 'elastics'. I am satisfied. Without pictures your pleats are difficult to judge.

2. You can say my Wested jacket fits snug around the shoulders. I see it as a good fitting jacket. In my case the movement really comes, partially, from the pleats. Wear your jacket a lot, and it will fit better, it shapes around your body. I know this from other jackets.

3. For the sleeves, the same 'it's a fitting jacket'- story can be told. I think the sleeves are comparable with suitjacket sleeves. They should end (depending on personal preference) between your first knuckle of your thumb and one inche below the 'wrist bend'. For some people this sleeve-lenght is shorter than usual, compared with other coats.
Watch people who can afford expensive tailored suits: their hand are free...
I think your sleeves look perfect.

But again, pictures would make things easier...

I suppose that I won't be of much help to you as I don't have a way to present you with photos for reference. Sorry.

If you just don't have a place to host he pics, then PM me and I can host them for you. If you don't have a dig cam or a scanner, then I can't help much.
W/o pics its hard to give specific advice because 'broad shoulders' may mean different things to different people. All I/we can do is give general advice based on our experiences.
I could post more pics here (or email them) of me and my jacket if there is something specific you want to see.

Sorry, But I don't have a digital camera. On the brighter side of things, my wife says the jacket looks just fine. So if she says it's cool, then it's cool. Thanks to all.
