I currently have two Westeds. One is about 4 years old and the other is about 4 months. Both are Raiders Jackets made of Lambskin. One is the older style (pre-updates) and the newer one is, well, the new style. I would never part with my new Wested, as it is everything I have been looking for in an Indy jacket all these years. To me, it is perfect. I would part with my older Wested (warning, shameless plug) I'm actually selling it here in the classifieds right now. It was a great jacket, and my first "real" Indy jacket, but it didn't fit me anymore. I wore my old jacket as often as I could, until it just got too small. Now I wear my new Wested as often as I can, which is usually no less than 4-5 days a week.

I received my Wested "Raiders" Lamb over two years ago. It was my first
real "Indiana Jones" jacket. I first inquired about Indiana Jones clothing (particularly the jacket and fedora) from the Star Wars Fan Club (they were the ones handling the initial avalanche of fan mail...) the year
Raiders came out. I was just going into high school. I still have their hand-typed letter of response. They said at that time that they intended to market a full line of
Raiders-inspired clothing, including the fedora and jacket, and that it would most likely be available at finer department stores, like Bloomingdale's. I waited...and cobbled together my first costume from offerings in the JCPenney Christmas Catalog...and waited some more.
Cut to over 20 years later. From the day I got my Wested (and initially treated it-- thanks to Michaelson
), I wore it nearly every day. I wore it to casual and formal occasions. The cool (and often rainy) climate of the extreme North Coast of California made the jacket absolutely ideal. The jacket began (and continues) to distress itself: a touch of wear at the cuffs, an occasional gentle scuff here or there. The thread on the left side buckle tab pulled out, and I had a reputable tailor with years of experience in leather repair it.
Then, in the middle of last August, I moved to Tucson, Arizona (about as polar an opposite climate as one could ask for in). I literally wore the jacket as we pulled our U-Haul out from Eureka, and 36 hours later, I removed it as we entered Phoenix. It has seen regular use through the winter here in Tucson, but I find myself wearing it somewhat less in the Spring and Summer. Somehow, the hot and dry weather, with temperatures solidly in the 90's, 100's and even 110's make it less comfortable than in my California days. My solution? A Wested cotton may well be my next purchase....
But that first lamb Wested? It will never leave my possession, and I intend to pass it on as an heirloom. Those English lambs gave their all that I might be comfortable, and they have never let me down. Peter and his crew, with their consummate craftsmanship, saw to that. So I take care of my English lambs, and they shall continue to take care of me....
Sincere regards,
Henry Jones, Sr.

I have only one...Raiders Goat, and I've worn it every day that weather
allows for just about one year now. There will be more in the future,
but I doubt that I'd ever sell an older one as long as it still fits me.

I've had countless Westeds come and go through my closet. And one FS that traveled for a bit before coming back, but the one constant I've always had on a hanger is the Fan Club-sold Indy Jacket since 1989. It's real rugged looking now... hardly accurate as it zips American style and has hidden press studs. They Indiana Jones Tag as long since worn off it's leather plackard, but for some reason it's always stayed in my stable. It's a heavier jacket... good for when it gets too cold for the others.

I got my first Wested in March of 1998, and wore it until I outgrew the sleeves (sometime in 2002), at which time I ordered a new one (that I made into a Last Crusade jacket). I've been wearing it ever since. I would never part with either of my jackets, the first one because of sentimental value, and my newest one because I've made it the Indy jacket I've always wanted.

1st one was the offering at Disneyland in 1994 (still have it). It's still a good jacket and does match LC extremely well. It's nice and distressed, naturally of course. Still wear it now and again. More apt to put it on when it rains.
2nd is my Wested which I bought about 4 years ago. Still fits perfectly and is in great shape. It's dk brown lamb.
About to order an authentic Goat and lamb set.

I've had my first Wested less than a month and I think I've worn it everyday so far. And it's getting warmer out, too. Hmmmm... time to get a cotton Raiders?!

Hello AntiqityCollector
I got my jacket from Disneyland in 1994 as well. Would you happen to know who made these jackets? If it only came in cowhide or did it also come in lamb? I have a tag inside my jacket that says Made in Korea. I had read that Cooper made some jackets for Disneyland but aren't they an American Company?
Also, I like the way the leather has distressed over the past decade but my collar still doesnt have a curl like it does in the LC. Do you have the same situation?
Thanks
Jorenz

Not sure of the maker. It could be a cooper as Disney has a habit of not letting tags into the park. Well they used to anyway. Today they'll sell anything to make a buck.
If this was the case I wouldn't be surprised if they were made overseas as they were then mass produced for a while. Plus Disney would want a cut so that would have pushed them that way as well.
At the time they only came in cowhide. I'm not sure what the new offerings are made of but they are no longer close to accurate. They did match our version for a while after they changed suppliers but not anymore. Snaps on the cuffs and so forth.
My jacket has a great collar curl. It's pretty much permanent now. I used to roll it the other way to decrease it.
This jacket would get stiff as H*## if it got wet. Need to bang it around afterwards to loosen it back up.

I also had many Wested jackets, in all sorts of leathers, come and go through my front door....however, the jacket that will be a keeper is my new Wested Raiders style, dark-brown Goatskin made with the up-to-date mods. I plan on wearing this for years to come.....
I suppose these jackets become like a member of the family the more we use them, take care of them, as they take care of us on those chilly days!
Kind Regards,
Captain D

The end of this month will mark the 5th year that I've owned my jacket. I can still remember the box arriving, and the childlike glee that I experienced as I slipped the coat from the black plastic bag.

Just received my new Authentic Goat today, ahead of schedule. It's amazing. Will post pics soon. Very interesting to compare my new one to my Lamb which is at least 5 years old. To see all the changes that have been made is really interesting.
Not that the new one will replace my older one as I still love it to death.

AC: It would be very interesting to see some comparison shots of the details if you are able to pull that off.

This one really got me thinking. I'd been searching for 20 years for an Indy jacket and, thanks to Indygear, I was able to make my first purchase in 2001---a dark brown lamb Expo. Since then I've owned a seal chrome goat Expedition as well as my pre-distressed cowhide Expo. I've also had the pleasure of owning an authentic Wested goat and a pre-distressed Wested cowhide.
wow. that's a lot of leather that's been on my back the last couple a years. Not to mention the infamous deerskin Expedition that Indydawg so graciously allowed me to wear for those couple of cold months in early 2003. Man, that was a great hide.

well, I got my first pre-distressed cow for Christmas 2001, and wore it daily. It was retired Fall of 2002 when I put it on display in The Indy Room, and got a second predistressed cow. It's on my back almost daily (including today) from Sept - end of May (when it gets too hot for a jacket)
Next will be a lambskin for the warmer temp's.

I got my Wested Raiders Authentic Lamb at Christmastime and I am already itching for another one. Next, it will be another Raiders, but in goat. I'm thinking of ordering it at the end of the summer.

Thank you, sir. Believe it or not when that movie came out, it rekindled my fondness of Indiana Jones, in a round about way.
