Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding my 12ft David Morgan.
About two years ago I got this whip from its former owner, who obviously used it a lot. It has a beautiful patina. What makes me curious is that the transition got a bit soft. The flexibility does not increase gradually along transition, but the whip is very flexible right up to the handle. The transition is even softer than the following part. To demonstrate what I mean, I coiled the whip along its natural curve without applying force, and made the included photo. The radius at the transition is very small compared to that of the following part of the thong.

Is this a normal condition of a well used whip, or did the former owner use it in the wrong way, jerking it around with excessive force etc.?

I have no clue what yout talking about.
But that is one nice looking whip!

According to a reply which disappeared tonight (strangely), it was said to be a normal condition of a well-used bullwhip of this size and weight.
There was the question if gaps are visible in the transition area.
There are no gaps, but the braid isn't as tight as in the following part of the thong. Maybe I'm just too anxious

To avoid misunderstandings: I really like this whip and will never give it away.
Just wanted to be sure there is no damage.

It is natural in an old or heavily used whip - even the best. The transition area takes a huge amount of wear and tear, especially if the whip is used for complex routines (lots of volleying seems especially wearing) or it's a heavy/long whip; and this area of the whip can lose it's liveliness faster than the following part of the thong.

Mr Morgan is careful to reinforce the transition area to give the whip as long a life as possible, so what you're most likely seeing is old age or heavy use, rather than an actual problem with the structure of the whip.
