In regard to the DVD interview:

What do you suppose Harrison Ford and the costume lady actually DID to the jacket with Ford's Swiss Army Knife?

Stab it?

Slash it?

I've been trying to figure than one out for a while.

I have aged jeans with a knife by running the blade along the seams and distressing the denim in spots with the edge, so, once you wash them, they come out frayed. I hardly see how this would work on leather, though.

I’m glad you guys brought up this subject.
Ever since I watched that interview about how Deborah Nadoolman aged the leather jacket with Harrison Fords pocketknife and a wire brush, just before shooting was to begin, I have been wondering. With all the attention to detail both Lucas and Spielberg insist on, didn’t she do any testing to see how to properly age the jackets? Didn’t she prepare any of them ahead of time for approval? In addition, she says there were at least 10 jackets including stunt people etc. Did she age all the jackets with that knife? All just before principal photography was to begin?

Did I miss something about that interview?

Let me know what you all think.
Regards,
Forrestal

I'm wondering if the jacket she is referring to in the interview, isn't the one that all the actors were wearing in the screen tests. Maybe they were sitting and talking about the look of the jacket, and started messing with it.
I don't think she would have distressed all the jackets, but who knows.

I'm not in the movie biz but I would think you are going to have a crew. You distress the first one and then say to your crew, "Make the others look identical."

Just my guess.

Well, she's been consistant. This is the same story she told Indiana John about 3 years or so ago when HE interviewed her. Regards. Michaelson
