Coat Identification

Post by MikeMac »

I’m wondering if someone could help me identify the type of leather used in this coat I bought for my kid. I really like it and I don’t see anything similar on the US Wings website.

Looks like cowhide. Little stiff when bought, but gets nice and soft with wear.

It is cowhide. I have two that my kids had when they were about that size.

They are now 21 and 23. I kept both of those jackets as well as all their other Indy gear though. One of these days I’ll have grandkids that will want to dress like their granddad!!

Thank you all for the replies. Is there anything similar on the website? I can’t really tell.

Looking at the leathers, I think the closest would be “Vintage Cowhide”.

I mean is there anything on the US Wings website that is currently available for sale. I’m looking for a size medium version for myself. I’d like it to be in that leather, but I don’t see it available.

Well it looks like run of the mill predistressed cowhide. The closest you'd get is either their Signature version they offer now or the one under the Cooper imprint. You're unlikely to find one of the same leather run, but again, it looks to be fairly generic cowhide. Keep an eye on ebay and the other haunts and it's likely something pops up at a good price.

I don't know about US Wings but I have one Indy jacket that looks exactly the same as the one on your picture and I bought it on ebay in 2016. The brand is FZ Merchandise. I don't know if they still have it on ebay.

This jacket is great for Crystal Skull style jacket but you will have to replace hardware on side straps from slide through buckles to D rings for more CS screen accuracy. and they have one extra stitch on the sleeves, which is minor inaccuracy from movie jacket.
