Help me ID color of Emperor's Tomb belts

Post by Jonesy Jr. »

Hello

I'm trying to decide what colors are Indy's belts in Emperor's Tomb.
I always thought that satchel strap is black and web belt is brown but upon closer comparisons it seems that gun belt and satchel belt are dark brown and web belt is darker than brown. It almost looks black or mossy.

What colors do you see ?

It looks very dark green to be, basically black with a green tone.

They as well might really be black. I tested black faux leather with edges sewn with brown thread and they gave effect like the one on the picture. I should try with dark brown too.

I'm glad that you mentioned that green tone. I thought about that too but was not sure.
I wonder how could this effect be achieved. Any ideas ?

From an in-universe perspective, I'd say it's dark brown to be consistent with the ROLA gear. Occam's Razor and all that.

I kinda see the green you guys are seeing, but I think the odd color tones of his shirt may be bleeding into the belt and tricking the eyes. I doubt they would change the color of the web belt and try to match all the other colors. There's a chance we're overanalyzing this, but ... we are in the right place for that.

To me it also looks like a very dark olive colour, which would probably make sense as Emperor´s Tomb is set right before Temple of Doom.

Black fabric that has faded will sometimes take on a green tone, depending on the dyes used on it.

here's the highest res I could fine online, can see the green compared to the brown of the strap

This picture also shows that belt loops are placed lower like on movie Indy pants.

Ok, I definitely see it better now, but the shirt and pants also have a green tint in this picture, so I'm still not sure it's intended to be a green belt. This image looks like Indy in The Matrix. :P

This game have overall such mixed colors of objects. The belt is mostly black with green tint with two brown parts (one visible on picture from Istanbul outside). Even shirt has green and brown spots which represent that it's dirty. The pants are lighter color at area above the Indy's rear side which is possible on real jeans, cotton twill pants from a lot of wear, washing and distressing. And the satchel for example. It has three colors in an unlikely way to have it distressed that way by using it. It's like it was intentionally painted like that. The base of the bag appears khaki green yellowish with olive spots splashed over it with dark green on the right side of bag and edges. Only in universe explanation (besides that this is just a videogame) for this olive over color is that it was blancoed with olive blanco which washed off in places and green grass color is grass stains from use.

Would bleach help make this effect on black strap ? Have anyone tried it on webbing material ?

buy black web belt, cut to length, use excess to test diluted bleach solutions on.
