US Wings Signature Series

Post by Leatherhunter58 »

I am a new member here but not new to the appreciation of Indiana Jones and the gear. I recently acquired a pre-owned US Wings Signature Series Adventurer jacket in cowhide. I am a bit of a collector of leather jackets and always want to know the story behind a jacket I own and this one is no exception. Research has told me that Schott NYC made these jackets for Sarge, I consider myself lucky to find one as I am a big fan of Schott and their history. Not sure what year it was built but based on the 5th digit being an 8 on the paper pocket tag it was either 2008-2018. So my remaining question is when did US wings produce this particular model?

The Signature series has been available from Wings since 1998, and was only curtailed when the Disney/Lucasfilm contract was signed for DofD .

Since that contract ended in January, the Signature series by Schott will be continued.

All Signature series, and marked U.S. made Wings jackets are Schott jackets. Sgt. Hack has partnered with Rob Schott for decades.

As to the numbers, even Sgt isn’t sure about dates. You had to ‘be there’ when it happened. ;)

If yours is from 2008 and cowhide, it came from the hide order that Tony Nowak missed out on buying as the other half was used to make all the CS jackets. He was not a happy camper.

Thanks for the intel. I really am enjoying this Wings jacket and I will say this cowhide is special, it’s supple but not thin at all. I had some knowledge that Schott made some jackets for Wings and I own several Schott jackets so I am a fan.
I guess I will have to not know exactly when it was built based on what you said but that’s ok. Thanks

Thank you, I have had the Akubra for several years but the jacket is new to me and so far really enjoying it.

I miss when the Signature Series was at it's peak. So many choices. I loved them. I think i had 4 at one point. They were perfect for those of us with generous proportions, and built like a tank.

Yeah, I too miss the days when the Signature was their standard offering. I always tell people that if durability is the thing they're after more than screen accuracy and they'd like an heirloom Indy jacket then the USW is the way to go, especially since they're available in far higher numbers than the Expedition. And TBH other than the zipper, which can be pretty cheaply flipped by a tailor, the SA isn't all that off, especially for the runs there around the CS release thru much of the 2010s. And I miss the Legend.

I resemble the generous proportions assessment. I found this one a month ago, a 2XL Long and it fits big. I own a small collection of leather jackets and when I discovered the Signature Series is made by Schott NYC I was very pleased. Well built and the cowhide is beautiful and soft yet substantial.

I agree the choice of zipper is a bit puzzling based on how the rest of the jacket is constructed. Would much prefer a #10 main zipper.
