S&J LC in thin horsehide?

Greetings all!
Happy new year and happy holidays
I am placing my order soon(ish) with Diego and wanted horsehide this time for my LC jacket. I’m going for a comfortable wearing jacket with modern clothes. So kinda looser fit than normal and slightly longer so screen accuracy is not needed in that department.
I do want the look of a nicely aged Crusade jacket. Not to the extreme as the one on the screen but mild distressing.
I know the thin horsehide is good for Raiders and ToD but does anyone have a LC in thin horsehide that can post pics of or have any info in regards to the thinner hide.
Thank you in advance

I don't know about thin horsehide but I own S&J ToD in thin cowhide. It feels and drapes like lambskin. Very light leather. About thin horsehide, just send email to Diego from Steele and Jones and he will be happy to answer to any of your questions.
Regards

Thank ya for the reply. We are writing back and forth but I wanted to see what people that own them thought of it.

Great question! I just pulled the trigger on my first Indy Jacket with S&J! Diego has been super responsive and helpful. I too am going with the ‘38. It’s my favorite and raiders very close second.
I too was curious about horsehide and thin cowhide. Diego told me the thick/normal cowhide works best for the LC jacket. I still have time to pick the leather but I’ll most likely defer to Diego’s expertise and go with thick cowhide. My biggest deciding factor is picking a leather I can wear at least 2-3 seasons out of the year.
Anyone have a LC in thin cowhide?

Sweet. Diego has expressed to me that the thin horse isn’t good for a LC but the strength of horse is what I want.
I have the thick cow LC now and it’s great. Just a tad bit tight. So gotta sell it now but I am in queue for a new SJ !

That looks great! I’m super pumped. Appreciate the photo. That’s a very nice jacket. You’ll have no issues selling that.

Thin horsehide isn’t good for LC?!
Since when?
He never said that when he made mine!

Long time no see old friend ! Hope it’s warmer in TN than it is here in NYC!
I think what he means is the drape doesn’t work for LC. I’m guessing cuz it was a thicker lamb and the drape was not as drapey
I don’t even know if that makes sense ?!

Howdy stranger!
Not sure! Drapes fine for me, and they offered no hesitation in making an LC version for me, so that remark caught me by surprise.
And no, it’s cold down here too.

I feel bad now. Diego has been great and I don’t think anything negative was meant about it.
I am not going for super detail screen accuracy just Indiana jones jacket in strong hide that looks similar to LC but not counting scratches and such

No need to feel bad. As I said, I was just surprised, as you are going for exactly what I was after, and that’s what he steered me toward, which I am very happy he did! I’m puzzled as to the change of direction now.
No big deal, just puzzled.

I got the impression that he believed the thick cowhide would just be a better option for the LC jacket opposed to thin cowhide. He did say he could make it in either with zero issues
Do you feel the thin cowhide works well as a four season jacket? Obviously summers anywhere are more difficult.

Thick cowhide isn’t good for winter weather. Just wear another jacket. Lol
On the real though, Indy jackets are usually a two season thing for me. Fall and Spring.

I see any Indy jackets as 2.5-3 season jacket, regardless of type leather, but that’s just my opinion.
I’ve found goatskin to be my best ‘all round’ leather choice for various seasonal wear. I find my S&J thin horsehide a perfect mid range weight. Not too heavy, not too light. I just wish I had been a bit more generous with the measurements as I have no room for layering.
Regards! M

That’s kinda where I’m at. Retirement weight gain and zero ability to layer

Much appreciated. Maybe I’ll do thin horsehide. I’m definitely leaning thin leather option.

You’ll love it. Thin, lightweight, but tough as nails. Just be aware if you want to distress it, you may want to discuss having them do it before making the jacket. The leather wears like iron.

Yeah, ‘retirement weight gain’ is the pits, isn’t it?

I'm in the same group...My LC is made of thin horse and I think matches really nicely what I see on screen...Diego also was into the horse when he made mine, although I suspect what has happened is that since then, he's found a leather that just matches BETTER than the horse, so he recommends that over the horse NOW....I still think the horsehide is rather good, strong as an ox...Wait...Horse? Stronger than ox? I guess....And warm as well...It's a decent hide for LC, even if there may well be another that matches the screen one a touch better now..

I have a whole load of pics but Tapatalk won't let me post without subscribing, and I don't need another subscription service...So, "no", essentially....Or not here anyway...They used to be ok to post one pic but it doesn't appear that that's ok either now...Weird..

I post on Imgur, upload pictures and post away.
My latest jacket from S&J is the DoD and while it’s is lamb, not like any lamb I’ve ever had.
Been my go to.
For winter I wear my Cockpit in Goat and it works great.a
And i wear mine year round, might not on the way home, but definitely in the A.M.

Yeah, as I said above, I did try that, and it wouldn't let me post...Kept posting an advert to subscribe over the "post" sign, so I couldn't upload the one photo...I've not seen it do that before..

Just tried again in the hope it was a one off thing, but each time I press "reply" with the pic attached, it brings up a subscription screen which can be removed, but then you tap "reply" again and it does the same thing...So, no pic without subscribing, it seems

Yeah, I don't know why it's not working for me, I'd post a pic of what it sends me to, but....I can't post pics...It's the first time I've seen it do this....Hence the second check

Yeah, it's really annoying actually...It doesn't say you can't, but when you press the "upload" it takes you to a screen saying "buy a month" or "No thanks" and clicking on "no thanks" takes you back to the upload screen, ad infinitum.....Stupid, but perhaps a design "flaw"?
I'm on Instagram, and the pics are there at the bottom of my pic threads, or Facebook too, search "Ben Sharples" or "fifthchamber36" on Insta and that'll work easier than here..

Hi folks!!!
Let's clear something with S&J Horsehide option
Since year 2012 approx. we offer Horsehide.
And ALWAYS had 2 thicknesses:
STANDARD = 1.0 mm thick (the one we recommended for LC and CS jackets. MICHAELSON jacket) -----> ALL GONE - NO LONGER AVAILABLE. NO POSSIBLE RE-STOCK.
THIN = 0.8 mm thick (works great on RAIDERS and ToD jackets) ---> Still available. Last skins. NO POSSIBLE RE-STOCK.
Cheers.-
