Wested Off-the-Shelf ToD vs Legacy ToD

Wondering if anyone has any insight or experience and/or advice between these two Wested ToD jackets (Sizing, distressing, color, undertones, weight, fit, etc.). I’m particularly weary of sizing because I like the back of the jacket to sit well below the belt line, closer to top pocket on a pair of jeans, and it’s hard to figure out how the jackets actually fall. Btw, I’m 6’1” about 195lbs with a 42” chest. I have a US Wings signature jacket with 27” back that sits where I like it. That said, I know the cut/style makes a difference. I watched the video Wested made on difference between Raiders Legacy and Regular and it shows how the same lengths in both jackets resulted in one sitting way shorter than the other, and it just confused me more. Also, while the Legacy can be customized, it also can’t be returned. Finally, I recognize S&J are well thought of here, and someone would be right to recommend them, but it is also almost a year long wait! I’m hoping to find something more immediate, if possible. Thanks.

I only have a second hand Wested TOD, so not quite sure whether it was an off-the-shelf or legacy, but most likely off-the-shelf. I just wanted to chime in to be aware of chest sizes with the TOD as well. The TOD sits on your shoulders more like a regular jacket (as opposed to the off-the-shoulder/dropped collar of an accurate Raiders jacket) so the fit is probably similar to your US Wings as they don’t do the off-the-shoulder cut. Wested cuts the TOD to be very snug, so if you want to wear it with layers you should go up a size. I wear a 44, but the TOD jacket I have is a 46 that is very comfy and still looks good. If you’re looking for that tight, scrunched sleeve, snug body fit, then go with your normal size.

I’m about the same size as you and my size 46 Wested TOD has a 27” back. It’s a bit long on me but I carry more of my height in my legs.

Thanks, Tibor. That is very helpful.

Would love to hear other’s experiences with these two jackets and the difference between them (other than one being customizable). :TOH:

So Wested customer "service" just emailed me back. Not helpful on sizing recommendations...just referred me to their FAQ page and measurement guide. Wish I had thought of that ](*,) . I had also asked whether the standard OTR TOD and the Legacy TOD had the same skin/hide or were different, and if different, what were the distinctions. Response was that they were different but referred me to the description on the website. The description simply states "New Original Brown Lambskin" for the Legacy TOD and "Brown Lambskin" for the OTR TOD. Well, hat clears it all up

Hi Tibor,

It was a custom TOD. Original lambskin with sizes that were a bit too short for me (hence my selling it!) and two claw buckles that I sent to them as they didn’t, at that time, offer them. It has an all cotton lining instead of satin sleeves as I’ve found the cotton sleeves breathe better and are more comfortable in damp English weather!

I’m 6’4” and the 27” back length was probably a half inch to an inch too short and the 26” sleeves were about an inch and a half too short.

My usual suit jacket size is 46 and the 46 chest on the TOD felt comfortable, snug, but comfortable.

On Wested’s website for ordering a Legacy jacket, is the sizing input for “back” and “sleeve” for my body measurements OR the length I want those parts of the jacket to be? I gather the chest size is a body measurement, but use of the word “sleeve” has me wondering.
Thanks,

Sleeve is the actual length of the jacket‘s sleeve. When I order a jacket I also take the shoulder into account. My ToD is also a 46 and the shoulders are 7.5“ wide from the collar. This gives you this nice overhang on the shoulders and also makes the sleeves longer as they will start below your shoulder.
The pit to pit measurement gives you an idea how snug it will fit. For example my chest is 44.9“ and my ToD (25 pit 2 pit) fits perfect with a shirt and a light sweater when I zip it up.

The Legacy is the only one that is screen accurate. The others do not have accurate buckles or action pleats in the back.
