SWEAT BAND REPLACEMENT

Hello to all, especially to those who know how to install a new sweat band.
I did do a search, but didn’t see anything pertaining to this, please direct me and delete this post.

One of my hats has been to tight, and I’ve bought a hat stretcher, but while it helped, it’s short lived.
I think my issue was (yes was) the sweat band had a metal wire sewn in, and one time in my frustration, I may have been to zealous :x
And the wire became kinked.

Well I was trying again and, well I took out the liner and sweat band.
Now the hat is loose, finally. But more than needed.

So after all that, is there tutorial on how to install a new one, and ware does one purchase a new one band.

Via The Fedora Lounge, this is the tutorial I used:

If you're feeling especially DIY, you can grab a sweatband, ferrule, and back bow from Pure Beaver Hat supply: https://purebeaverhatsupply.com/product ... -sweatband

But if you want to save yourself the trouble of matching the ends, I would suggest grabbing a completed one from Scott at Fine Vintage Fedoras: https://www.etsy.com/shop/finevintagefedoras

Thank you so much for the links, I will look these over, but the completed version will probably win.
Once again, thank you jlee563, much appreciated. :TOH:

Croft, I am curious to see pics of your project once it is finished. Hats are a project I am still too apprehensive to tackle. :rolling:

My biggest worry is sewing while the ribbon is on, if I were to remove it, game over.
Off to Pennman or another’s shop for a full reblock.

My thoughts are to cur the ribbon threads that hold in place down by the bottom, sorta fold it up, sew in the sweat band, roll back down and throw a couple threads to hold it in place.

We shall see, right now I’m planning i doing some light work on y Jeep, so once that’s done I’ll buy the completed band and give it a go.
I’ll take pictures as I go.

Never done anything like this, but I can be pretty clever .

That sounds like a surgical endeavour! :rolling: but I think it is a good way to go about it. Very curious to see how it works out.

Cheers,

Well, I did it.
:-k
Came out ok, this is what I went with, second one down with a request for no gold band and they happily obliged.

Being my first and hopefully last adventure into this kind of project.
I love working with wood, but this was out of my league, but I figured I had nothing to loose other than sending it out to be re-blocked.

So first I did was to snip the threads holding the ribbon, all but the ones near the bow.
Sew in the liner.
Sew the bow back on.
I used common thread, and I'm happy with it.
I know there those that are better and hats off to you, pun intended. :TOH:
For me this was very tedious and yuko.

The liner I used some felt glue.
And done, fit is looser but I'll wear it some with some folded material, once I've sweated some, hoping it shrinks some.

Before I put in the liner I steamed it some and re-set the blocking, was originally a Advantage ToD, now......... :-k :-k

So over all, I'm happy as before the hat was to tight.

Credit goes to you, I am always impressed by a good DIY-er. Especially when it's something out of your comfort zone. And hat-making/repairing, sewing is not easy! :TOH:

Edit: meant "credit where credit is due"... mixed up my stuff.. :rolling:
