Jacket thoughts

A few things that popped into what's left of my mind:

(I'm speaking here of Indiana Jones the character, not Harrison Ford the actor)

1.) At SOME point, Indy's jacket had to be new. When he originally bought it, it looked new and smelled new. (possibly Peter's pre-natal work) So, although we don't see it in the movies, Indy once DID have a new jacket. So, I've recently tipped over into Michaelson's camp, and have an early-Indy accurate jacket, although not screen accurate.

2.) Has anyone come up with a story of where Indy GOT his jacket? Did he buy it? Was it given to him (like his hat)? What KIND of jacket is it supposed to be? Military? I haven't read the novels, so it may be in there. I'd like to know, wouldn't you?

3.) In fact, wouldn't it be cool to know the story behind each piece of gear?

I'm with you on this one, Flash. I'll probably pop down to UK in a couple of months, and most likely get me a Wested. I'll definitively go for something undistressed - authentic lamb being a strong candidate... the same goes for the custom-made pants I'm projecting at the moment - the cav twill I found is slightly darker than the NH fabric - well, Indy must have bought those pants some time or another, and the color was most certainly darker when pants were new...

Everything 'distresses' and shows wear and tear with daily use. Taking care of those items will slow the process, but will not stop them, so I preach that you should start new and allow nature to take it's course, with proper care of course. You'll end up with the same results...though it takes longer, you'll have stories to go with each and every mark, rather than discussing the degree of pressure used with a Brillo pad and Dremel tool. Regards. Well I'd say that this falls squarely into the realm of "fanboy fantasy," and although I'm not sure if any writers have made up and answer to this I think the first McCoy Indy novel had some scene in a bar where a German drunk gave Indy a hard time for wearing a leather bomber jacket.

No, the scene you're referring to was in the Rob MacGregor novel, Indiana Jones and the Peril at Delphi, in the chapter entitled Dadas and Jazz. Indy was having a drink with Jack Shannon at a night club in Paris, and one of the Dadas commented:

"Hey, where'd you get that jacket? You going on a bombing mission?"

"You got something against our German brothers?" another said.
