Just did a quick search and didn’t see that there was one page that covered all the issues about the LL Bean shirt. I was wondering if anyone has any news about the current manufacturer and it’s national origin.
I’ve heard there’ve been some recent changes to the shirt itself.

Hey Ren,
The one that I had one at Joe's was purchased at Christmas. When you mentioned "recent changes" did you mean in the next batch, which is coming out in July? Or in those made in the last year or so?
I ask this because I intend to buy two more once they are available in my size and I want to be sure that they are at least similar, or superior, to the one I received at Christmastime.
I like its current version and fear they may make changes that could make it inferior. Though, made in Canada sounds like an improvement. Without checking the tag, I don't know where mine was made, though I don't think it was Canada.
Thanks

How right you were; we were posting at the same time. And, yes, you are right, virtually my entire wardrobe comes from LL Bean. But I cannot comment on the provenance of my skivvies.

......quick, Mr. Moderator, PLEASE lock this thread down before it becomes even MORE frightening than it already is!!!!!!!

Hey Ren,
You may recall a couple of weeks ago, I posted that I had checked the LL Bean website and the tan safari shirt in Reg XL was back in stock. I ordered two at that time. I received a letter a day or so before I received my shirt, stating that they only had one in stock, and had shipped it and was refunding my money for the other shirt that I ordered. I guess I must have gotten the last one they had. I saw just the other day that these shirts are due to be back in stock in July.
The one shirt that they sent me was made in Canada. It is the first one of these that I have gotten from LL Bean, so I don't have an older one to compare it to. I'll wear it to Gettysburg, so you can see it then. I wonder if the ones that they will have in July are also made in Canada?

Most of what I wear also comes from Bean... even the PJ's I'm wearing as I'm posting now.

Hey Bufflehead,
Are the buttons on that shirt sort of marbled with tan and dark brown?
Ren's in his PJ's???
And he probably has his Akubra on.

I'm confused. These shirts at one time were made stateside. And then either last year or the year before, they sourced the shirt from China. And now it's Canada? I guess that's good news. That means the shirts from China did not work out due to LL Bean's high standards.

Hemingway,
Yes, that is about the best way that I could decribe them. Other than to say that they are round.
All this talk of skivvies and Ren in his PJs and Akubra, are a mental image that I really don't need.

You have a hidden Cam here somewhere?

I'm taking casual Fridays to a whole new level. Dressing down in PJ's... Dressing up in my Akubra.

So, is that a "No" on my revealing Calender for next year?
All kidding aside, I want a new shirt for the next summit but I hessitate in getting one. I have one of the last shirts made in the US (Olive... that was a mistake) and one made in China that my Dog helped herself to... ate the spot where I spilled some beef gravy.
The Cabela shirt is too heavy for warm spring days. I'm open to suggestions about the Bean shirt... get it now if I can or wait?

Ren, my good friend, let me preface this by saying as enthusiastic and impressed by the quality of Akubra products as you are, is equal to the same enthusiasm I have for LL Bean. So, my advice to you is get one now, while you can. And, when the new ones come out in July, but one of those also.
It's true, the epaulets could be longer and brought to the collar, the buttons are the wrong color, and the shirt, itself, could be lighter, Still, it is a high quality shirt, close to screen accurate, for a very affordable price compared to, say, an Orvis. I am now home and I checked the tag and mine was indeed made in Canada.
If you were really craving screen accuracy, you could order a slightly larger size, use a piece of the shirt-tail to make a longer epaulet, change the buttons, and bleach the shirt like Dalexs and somehow sew a pleat.
I like mine as is and highly recommend it to you. And remember, with Bean, if you're unhappy, just send it back.
Best,
Tim

The LL Bean Indy shirt is what I wear most of the time.
I have long arms, and I have one small-size long-sleeve shirt. So for summer, I roll the sleeves up one or two times, unbutton the first couple of buttons, and I have a tighter fitting shirt, that looks on me, similar to the one on Indy on the rooftop in Cairo.
Also I have two medium-size long-sleeve LL Bean Indy shirts, which are better for winter

I've been debating on getting a "Tall", but I'm worried about the pocket placement.

I wear a tall, for arm length, and the pocket placement seems just fine. I really like this shirt, though I am a bit worried about the new shirts which are coming out. They look like they have plastic buttons the same color as the shirt. I hope this isn't the case, as I prefer a more antique button.

Yeah, those tall sizes put the pockets waaay down buy your knees!
I wouldn't worry about it Ren... tall sizes only add about 1-1.5" generally to the sleeve length and lower part of the body so your shirt tails don't keep pulling out! Pockets should be just fine. They won't be off by an 1".

I wish you had the option of getting the buttons that either match the shirt color or the more antique version. Which reminds me? Who's up for a trip to Freeport later in the spring?

I don't like pockets to be too low... they make me feel like I should be nursing.
I love the Bean shirt, except the get too "Streets of Cairo" for me with out having to do any running for my wife who's hiding in a laundry basket with a fascist monkey.

Count me in. They have a whole building devoted to hunting and fishing now (where they used to have the LL Kids). Who knows what treasures lie in wait...
Also, their outlet may have some of the shirts and pants from seasons past. I am definitely up for it.

The Tall size shirts may be the way I need to go.
How much longer does that make the sleeves?
Because, it would probably need to be about 3" longer in the sleeves to make a small work for me (and small's what looks good on me).

Though I would post this here where I tried to start the "Offical" Bean shirt thread.
I just got the hunting catalog and I flipped to the back and found our favorate "Close Enough" shirts on page 83. They now come in 4 colors... the light tan that I liked and three new colors: Dusty Olive, Dark Driftwood and Rangeley Blue. This is an actually photograph of the shirts and not some photoshop-ish doctoring of just one shirt in other "colors". The photograph looks like they got our favorate color (Tan) back in stock.
Don't mind saying this: But I want them all.

Ren,
I got that catalogue also and I agree with you. It's good to see tan back in stock. I received one last week and I am very pleased with it.
The one thing I found interesting, and look at this yourself Ren, by the way the shirts are photographed, it looks like the epaulets reach all the way to the collar. -They don't; as we know.
I agree with you that all of the colors looks great.

I forgot to add that the buttons closely match the fabric color in this photograph and don't use the genaric "antique" buttons.

The ever changing Beans shirt.
I was about to order some of these shirts and saw that some of the colors and details have changed again. Does anyone have one of the new "Dusty Olive" shirts. I have an Olive one, and it dates back to more then 4 years ago when they were still made in The United States. What do you think?

Here's the trick... can someone wear a brown fedora with a lavender safari shirt? Does anyone sell ties that have both the Akubra/Adventurebilt brown and the LL.Bean Lavender color together? That would be fetching.
Thanks for that link, Anzac!

Nope, should do that when I get home today. The LLBean pants are great, I have worn them a lot.
