It looks like any Mexican swivel-handle that you can pick up for $20!!!

What's even funnier is that the terminology describes a popper.

Just a quick question...WHERE IS THEIR POPPER? Apparently, their popper is found in another e-bay auction?

Humorous indeed, it still looks as though it's sturdy. If that's in kangaroo, what's the handle wrapped in? On my monitor, it looks like the handle from a Texas BullSh*ts brand!

I noticed that today, too and about laughed my buns off! I know a good starter whip is on my list someday, so is this one a good buy?

If it's around $80-$100, I'd say that's fine. But, you'd have to work the end over to thin the fall and put a cracker on it. Not the end of the world, of course, but for that price, one would think you could lay your hands on a whip with a popper! I'm also suspect that this is a swivel handle? Can't remember reading that, but it may have been there.

I meant for $2000, is that a good buy?!

When I can seriously plunk down a little cash for a good starter whip, I doubt I'll actually get it from ebay. That being said, as a whip maker yourself, what would you recommend as a good starter whip for a good price? I aleady know that I want an 8' whip, and probably a 12 plait one at that, but I'm very price conscious and don't have hundreds of bucks to spend on something I may or may not keep up with in the long run...

With what you've said, you'll have to do some shopping. I'd recommend an 8 plait cowhide whip, as it's durable, and requires less maintenance and can be used over most surfaces with little worry. You'll pay in the $80-150 range for something like this (just guessing) in case this is something you're not sure about staying with. Like most of us addicted to crack, once you have one.....we'll save you a chair at the Crack Anonymous meeting!

Eight feet is a good starter length, but so is six feet.

LOL! Gives a whole new meaning to "crack baby," doesn't it? I figure if I can find the time and I really pick up on cracking, then I'll invest in something nicer.

I know Lee Keppler sells an 8 foot, 8 plait cowhide whip on his website. Have you had your hands on one of these, and what's your take on them? Thanks for the input, buy the way.

I haven't held one, but that's a good a start as any. I've heard they are a decent starter whip.

Thanks again for the feedback, Paul. I told my wife last night (after watching Raiders!) that I want to save up for a whip someday. Her eyes got real big and she said "but aren't they $900?!" I replied, "Trust me, I won't have to pay nearly that much for a decent whip!." After that she settled down a bit. The nice thing is that I'm fortunate enough to be able to maintain an open dialogue with her about my hobbies, as I hers, so it evens out.

That sounds like the best way to go!

Oh, I don't know. Maybe this Mexican eBay whip has done us a big favor!
