Anyone else love the aging of veg tanned leather? Post your aged whips.

Here is a pic of the bullwhip I made in 2021. In the background it's laying on roo hide showing the original natural hue of the hide:

This whip hasn't been cracked. Only conditioned every few months and handled a bit. I keep it close when watching movies and such.

I love leather in general and love the patina leather gets.

Would love to see more aged whips, so if you have them, show them off.

Cheers,
Bear

Hi all! I'm fairly new to posting here, but not new to the world of Indiana Jones and gear! I was just cleaning and conditioning my whips the other day, and wanted to post some aged whips from my collection, many of which I've acquired secondhand (some of which are much older than others). Whips in the photo are listed below. Cheers, all! :whip:

Top row, left to right: 2009 David Morgan No. 455 Bullwhip (10 ft, 12 Plait, Kangaroo Hide, Natural Tan), 1990 David Morgan No. 453 Bullwhip (8 ft, 12 Plait, Kangaroo Hide, Natural Tan), 2016 Bernardo Del Carpio Raiders Style Bullwhip (10 ft, 12 Plait, Kangaroo Hide, Natural Tan)

Bottom row, left to right: 2008-2010 Terry Jacka J-Series Bullwhip (8 ft, 12 Plait, Kangaroo Hide, Saddle Tan), 2023 Joseph Strain, Sr. Indiana Jones “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” Style Bullwhip (10 ft, 12 Plait, Kangaroo Hide, Whiskey Kangaroo Overlay and Brandy Knots), 1994 David Morgan No. 455 Bullwhip (10 ft, 12 Plait, Kangaroo Hide, Black)

They are very beautiful! Do you crack them often?

Thank you so much, bearbeast! :TOH:

Yes, I try and get out to crack them as often as I can! I’m in Southern California, so the weather here is fortunately pretty nice for it most of the time.

That sounds very nice! :D

I am from Romania, so for two or three out of the four seasons it is hard to find a time when the grass and ground is not too wet from rain (or snow). But this summer was a dry one, so I had loads of chances to take my whips out.

Cheers,
Bear

I totally understand! I grew up in Seattle, Washington, with mostly rainy weather. I’m glad you had a great summer for whip cracking in Romania, though! :whip:

Thanks! :TOH: :D

PS: to second Tomek, any pics of bullwhips are welcome around here. We don't get a lot of traffic lately. :(
