How do you hold yours?
Probably like most people, who start using a whip for the first time, I thought you held the whip by the handle. It seemed reasonable, as the Turks-head knot would stop it sliding out of your hand. However I’ve now discovered you should hold the whip by the Turks-head knot. Is this right?

I hold it by the knot. Indy whips have large knots and they sit comfortable in hand.

How do you hold yours?
I remember my first encounter with bullwhips at the Queen Mary Indygear Summit years back, and learning to use the head knot in my hand like a ball and socket joint. Still cracking when I can on the family farm, but I need to replace the popper since the end of the fall tore off. Happy cracking!

Re: How do you hold yours?
Since I learned you hold if by the knot I've only been using it like that. Holding it by the handle has become weird, doesn't feel right anymore...

I hold it by the heel knot, but sometimes when I want to be fancy I hold it upside down by the transition knot like Blake Bruning suggested in one of his videos.

The upside down way sounds intriguing. Do you have a link to the video? I’m having a hard time visualising that.IJJTM wrote:I hold it by the heel knot, but sometimes when I want to be fancy I hold it upside down by the transition knot like Blake Bruning suggested in one of his videos.

THANKS. The best way to describe that is...... WOW!
I think the chances of me doing that, with the whip I have is, well, 0%

It’s not the most practical, but it adds a fun challenge, and getting flicks with it is very satisfying.
