The "brown" picture looks more like what you'd expect to get for that price. The "distressed" option looks too good to be true, so they probably stole the photos from someone else...

Usually, these types of jackets are amalgamations, but for the money, its not bad--if the distressed brown is actually made as the photos shown.

Here are the specs that could be improved upon for a Raiders.

Jacket in photo is distressed .cowhide and needs to be lamb or even distressed lamb.
Snaps on the storm.
Collar looks a bit on the wide side, ~2 7/8" preferred.
collar needs to end toward the mid-portion of the storm flap.
Straps anchored mid-pocket.
Pockets appear a bit too large, 8x6 or so.
May have leather facings inside.
Rounded pocket flaps.

If you look at the customer review picture you’ll see that there are snap buttons all the way up the storm flap. Kinda kills it for me. I mean, not bad for cheap Halloween cosplay, but too different for our crowd.

Same jacket, different seller and price here:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/989661369/ ... ck=1&frs=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Typically, where the knock offs really get it wrong is the back panel and action pleats.

These are hack companies which steal images from other makers to peddle their wares. On the very link you posted above, there are pictures of ME wearing our jacket being sold by another company.

I would own a Magnoli any day, all day, every day. Same for some of the other vendors here. I would rather have no jacket than this jacket, but that is strictly my opinion.

I started to open a thread, but I will post it here:

I have often looked at Indy jackets from vendors and have wondered why no one is offering a budget conscious jacket with at least most of the specs which are faithful to the film jacket. I believe that there is a void in the market at that price point. Others have offered to work with jacket makers in order to fine tune their jackets, but more often than not, vendors appear to disregard this advice and stubbornly move forward anyway. Instead, they have offered gimmicks, such as a plethora of skins and hides.

Todd covered this space in the market very well for awhile, but as we know, in the waning years after CS, demand decreased and fans moved on to the next thing.

What are we talking about? Natural tanned lambskin, possibly goatskin or thin cow. Most detest the gray, lifeless undertone of chromium.

Specs more accurate to film.

At present, in order to find this, you have to spend in upwards of $500 + to get what you want.

Tex,

Not to derail this thread, (which you've already done ;) )
but you seem to have all the perfect specs figured out, why not just find someone
to help you manufacture it?

I would argue we have had and continue to have vendors

US Wings and Wested.

The irony is when they put out jackets that were not slavishly SA, fans here turned on them like jackals.

At the end of the day, the only way to produce quality jackets at a price point that is more budget friendly is to mass produce them. In order to make that work the vendors need to appeal to the largest possible audience. Nuances of SA don't fit into that business model.

Wested is still producing what I would consider "a budget conscious jacket with at least most of the specs which are faithful" at well below the $500 range, but thread after thread here rips into them for not being absolutely stitch for stitch SA.

Indiana Jeff

Case in point, Holt worked with Wested to create such a jacket years ago. The outcome was the first legacy series Wested, so it's been done before....but apparently still not accepted as being THE jacket to fill the bill. ;)

I'm also curious about this jacket on Etsy. I ordered a Star Wars cosplay jacket from them, and had an amazing experience. Really high quality, and they tailored it to me for an amazing fit. And at an unbelievable price point. I'm not in the market for another Indy jacket at the moment, but if anyone else were looking for a budget option I'd be curious to hear a review from a proper gearhead.
