Bringing out the grain without shrinking?

Post by mooniteman »

Hey!

So I've done the "hot shower trick" with my jackets in the past, but I just got a new cowhide jacket by Indy Magnoli and want to bring a bit of the grain out without having it shrink up on me like my Wested Lamb.

- Should I wet it with warm water in small patches VS jumping in the shower?
- Use cold water?
- Some other method I'm not aware of?

Cheers!

I wouldn't wet it at all. Magnoli jackets look good out the box to me.

Full disclosure: it’s not specifically a Indiana Jones jacket, but a custom one.

Do it very carefully, and not all at once. There's no completely safe way of doing this. If you get leather wet there's a risk of it shrinking. I've certainly ruined a jacket or two.
