Is that a goatskin jacket?

Looks great, Josh! I'll have to send my next Wested to you to work on. Haha! What are the bumps at the side straps? Looks like there is some extra leather there or something.

ITG, looks to me like he's tied the straps back over on themselves.
Nice job Josh.

That is one worn looking jacket. A very nice job indeed Josh my friend. Wear it with pride!
The Keppler is looking good too!

Heck, Josh, a couple more Ohio winters like this past one, and it would have probably ended up looking like that anyway. (grins) Nice job (WHAT am I SAYING!!!???

Very nice indeed! When jumping into the post and just glancing at your text and pics I actually thought that was natural distressing... It does look very convincing. You seem to have done it in all the right places and I love those stripes on the back that looks like they could have come from branches or such. Any specific methods used? Hide? (As in leather used...)
I'm about to order my first Wested myself in ToD goat.
High regards,
Swindiana

Hmmm...that was my guess. But Peter didn't start offering goat till about the end of 2001. This jacket was 4+ years old, so interesting. It might be lamb or newhide (cowhide). My newhide doesn't have that kind of grain.

It is cowhide, but I can't remember which one at the moment.

Thank you all so much for praising the job I did on this old baby. But don't think I am doing what I did to this to my Expedition any time soon, that baby is going to stay looking new. I have to say that distressing any Indy jacket really brings out the spirit of the whole hobby. I have pictures of the real LC jacket at the Smithsonian, I could not beleive how much they look alike. No I did not use acetone, I did it the more realistic, Deberah Noodleman way, see says she used a steel brush and a swiss army nife, well I started out with the steel brush, very lightly. That really did not work very well. So I got out the sand paper and sand paper holder and went to town. The use of odd object layed underneath the leather and than sanded help to create those great shapes here and there. Out of my two Indy jackets I really wanted this one to have more of the real movie prop look and feel to it so I gave it heck. Here is another pic of my beloved Keppler Raiders fedora:

Nice lid! I, too, am curious as to how long it took you to distress your jacket. We can both agree that, yes, distressed jackets RULE!!!

Hey, that looks pretty good! Sandpaper is also what I used back in 1989 on a bomber jacket I had (I had no idea where to find a real Indy jacket back then). In fact, I used one of those vibrating power sanders and it made the whole thing quick and easy (however, I'm not sure I'd choose that weapon these days). You just have to be careful around stitching with it.
I haven't had the heart to distress my Wested yet though. I think I'll let some natural wear/weathering occur first (oh, who am I kidding, I know I'll rough it up one of these days).

Looks great, Josh! I especially like the wrinkles in the hide. My Wested cowhide is just now starting to wrinkle in a few places buy my cowhide Expedition---well, it's distressing just fine but it just doesn't have any wrinkles.
Not sure why but, I love the wrinkles in the leather.
Cheers,
I.J.

I totally agree with you, the cohide does wrinkle nice and distresses very nicely. I also agree with your observation as to the look of the jacket, I always thought this jacket had a very LC look to it.
