For anyone interested in making their own leather holster, I hope this will provide some help.

This is the pattern I created for my Webley revolver holster. I do not have the means to scan it, so I took some pictures besides some rulers and over a marked grid.

I usually make it in 10 ounce cowhide, sewn with 0.6 mm leather thread. I dye it with Fiebing's Dark Brown Oil Dye.

The end-cap has no pattern, I usually trace it after sewing the sides. You need to do a box stitch do make this work, but you can also sew the end flat, without a cap.

I'm making one myself, but I've made a non-historial belt attachment. It's also burgandy leather because I got it for free. Pretty sure it won't be as fine or cool as yours is.

Can't wait to see it, post some pics when you're finished. The simple belt loop is more screen accurate and I think burgundy will look quite fancy indeed.

The hardest part. Close Enough™

Great job, Snakewhip! Look really good!

The boxstitch on the end plug is the hardest job for sure. It can drive you mad. Each time I do it I am apprehensive I might screw it up. Worse thing of all: it's the last part of the job, and it might ruin all the previous work...

Yeah, Close Enough™ counts! Especialy if it works and no one can see the flaws underneath.

You really nailed the shape and the stitching looks quite neat. Close Enough™ or not, you can be proud! Most people don't realize what it takes to make a nice leather anything.

I had a colleague say: "what is so hard? You punch some holes and put string through it..." as response when I told him a handmade wallet could start at $50. Told him he should try himself and see what the outcome is before judging makers for their prices.

That saddle stitching certainly does a job on your fingers! Achey achey!

For the plug in the bottom of the holster use a thick piece of leather (or glue a couple of layers of thinner together). Once it's the right shape wedge it in the base, mark where the stitch holes should go. Take it out, make the stitch holes with a diamond shaped blade awl put through at a 45 degree angle. Put it back in and the holes should line up then stitch it in.

I always use a ~10 ounce piece of hide for the plug and cut it in such a way that it stays in place tightly. Then I use a driver with a 1, 1.5 or max 2 mm drill to make the holes at a 45° angle. Works wonders and ends up very clean looking.
