WPG A-2 jacket...

Recently, I was searching for an authentic reproduction of the classic A-2. Believe it or not, it's more difficult to find one these days than you might think, with 2-3 piece back, wide storm flaps or extra pockets, etc. :-k

I landed on the WPG site and discovered that they are faithfully reproducing USAAC jackets of WWII.

This one is made of soft goatskin, one piece back, snaps on the collar, solid knits and hardware.

For the price of $150, plus shipping, give WPG a serious look.

Props to Jerry & Co. ;)

Take a look at Five Star Leather, made to your sizes and very customisable (thread, knits lining and zippers). They are in Pakistan, and do very good work. I have two horse hide jackets from them and a goat all great leather quality and very well constructed. These are the two horse hide. Custom are about $200.

The WPG version of the A-2 is a solid offering, complete with russet type cloth liner. I prefer the ni**le snaps because is somewhat of a throwback, but that is minutia to some extent. No label. It would have been cool to have the USAAC star stamp.

Did some cleaning today and came across my first Indy type jacket.
Gave it a liberl dose of pecards which it absorber right up.
After words it was some what softer.

Label is size 38 says: JACKET, FLYERS, INTERMEDIATE, TYPE G-1
Made by Brill brothers

Is this the same as the A2 your talking about.
And where can I send it to have the cuffs and bottom replaced.
And is this how there supposed to fit, or is it to small, fit once but age has a tendencies to, well you know.

That's very like a navy issue G1 jacket, which in the view of many is a better jacket than an A2 as it patterned for better fit. That one seems about a size or two too small based on how they fit in all the photos of Navy guys.

An issue G1 normally has a mouton or fury collar. Has that collar been replaced? Brill Brothers did issue these jackets to the military many decades ago. A G1 with a leather collar is called a ANJ-3. They were also a thing and a very hard to find these days. If that Brill Bros is a civilian version, it might have had a removable fur collar, which is how Cockpit USA does a version today.

Thanks for the info.
To my recall, it never had a fur collar.

And yes it fit once, but I've gotten bigger over the years, don't know how that happened. :-k

I do know I did visit a lot of Army/Navy surplus stores growing up, as I've always loved military style clothing.
Cargo pants a major part of my closet.

Will ponder selling it, but they'd have to replace the cuff, bottom.
