Thoughts for first Wested Purchase

I am sure its a redundant topic , but I'd like some input or point me to the right thread
I am looking to get a Wested Raiders or Temple of Doom Jacket.
I own a Todd's jacket and love it. Does the Wested Raiders have the same "ill fitted" off-shoulder pattern, collar, and gussets?

I remember one of our members here made his own specs and they could be replicated in a custom jacket- would it be close to Todd's pattern?

As far as the Temple of Doom jacket, I know it is a different cut, but how much can you alter the length , chest size etc? My todd's is a size small and fit me well - 5'7 tall with a 36-37 chest and the back of the jacket hit my belt line

Regards,
Ben Brim

If you’re going for a Wested, I’d pick Raiders or LC, since those are the two Indy movies they made jackets for. The ToD jacket was made by Cooper, if I recall. Some members of the forum have had success getting good reproductions of the ToD jacket from Wested, but they knew exactly what they were looking for and provided their own hardware (the buckles on the side straps in ToD were unusual). Right now the folks to talk to about a ToD jacket are either Steel & Jones or Bill Kelso Mfg., both of which are at a higher price point than Wested.

If you go for a Wested Raiders, I would suggest going for the Hero jacket, as that’s going to be the closest to the Todd’s pattern. It has the off the shoulder feel, same collar and gussets.

Yes, same as above. Keep in mind the Wested Raiders is not the same as the Wested Raiders Hero jacket.

If you want a more accurate pattern akin to Todd's or Nowak's the Raiders Hero is the way to go. NOT the Wested Raiders as that is a different fit.

I'm not too sure about the TOD as so far, Wested doesn't have a Hero TOD jacket. Other's here have gotten an accurate replica but with modifications to the pattern, I believe. But I'm not sure how close their standard TOD is to the real deal.

Steele and Jone's TOD seems to have a great fit and look for TOD.

Order a custom Raiders (not the Hero) .. you can put in your own sizes.
Washed lamb
I'd suggest go 1-1.5 inches longer on the sleeves *after washing they scrunch up a bit very nicely
They (have all in my experience) sized up one size bigger in my opinion so if you want a fairly fitted look when closed up go one size smaller ... *I've had about 6 now

Notes
it benefits right out the bag from a Luke warm shower .. drip dry for 20 mins then wear it till its almost if not completely dry ... it looks epic! ..
The Hero is very big and does hang off the shoulders

Not sure how you got a Hero jacket that was “big” - I ordered my normal size and received a fairly fitted jacket. It’s fit is pretty comparable to my BK jacket (which is also rather fitted), except a bit more off the shoulders and longer in the sleeves.

BenBrim said he wants something comparable to the Todd’s jacket. That’s likely to be the Wested Hero jacket.

Thanks for the info folks, it has cleared some things up.

The Wested Hero Jacket sounds like what I am looking

As far as the TOD version- I will look into the other makers to compare. I don't need a super accurate version of it. Just as long as it captures the general things and fits me well

Hmmm well before you go for that final call read the Wested blog highlighting the differences in the styles .. i styill maintain that the Hero is a very different beast and may not be what you envision ..

https://westedleatherco.wordpress.com/2 ... s-edition/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That said once read you can customise the Hero like any other jacket but ther blog(s) are lighthearted but informative and I’m not sure how many folk know of them.

Agree.

Also, OP, note what the Wested site says: This is the jacket tailored to the shape of the original Ford pattern but please remember this jacket was built to fit Ford's broad shouldered, narrow waisted frame. The jacket does have oversized shoulders and a few other unique points to it so PLEASE read the description!

It looks big because the pockets and collar are bigger on their Hero jacket. Their standard 'Raiders' jacket is more like the cairo jacket with a smaller collar.

I just bought a Raiders about four months ago. I have a Hero from maybe four or five years ago. I have also had a Raiders jacket from about maybe ten years ago. I'm loving the new Raiders jacket. The collar and pockets are awesome and the fit seems much, much better. The sleeves on my Hero are way too narrow. I've looked at pictures from the Temple scene of Raiders and the sleeves are obviously wider than mine.

My advice, if you check out the sizing chart for the Raiders jacket and feel that you can pull off a size smaller than what you normally wear, then do that. I personally feel that the collar on my hero is just a bit too much.
